Agree. It's not like the good old days where Geelong snapped up Tom Hawkins for a 3rd rounder letting them keep their pick 7 for Joel Selwood, while 2-years later had to use our first rounder on Ayce Cordy. We also missed out on a couple, namely Ben and Sam Reid when the threshold increased from 50 to 100 games so it hasn't been all one-way traffic for us on the father son front. The lowering of the discount and updating the DVI points curve is a step in the right direction, although as per the Hawkins/Selwood example it can take 15+ years for the effects of an overly favourable system to unwind.
Gary Ablett was also in the 3rd round era

I think the main thing they’re not realising is that it’s not as though we have a NGA and access to father-son players and they don’t. They can also match NGA and father-son players exactly the same as we can. The fact that they haven’t had many good players available through that route while we’ve had a good patch doesn’t make the system unfair. We’ve just benefitted lately out of luck and good development.

Their breeding program just isn't as successful as ours.

I will defend Saints as other than North they're probably the least desirable market, and have had to do a whole bunch of weird list management strategies as they're still recovering from their Seaford disaster (while Moorabbin itself is hardly a heap more desirable anyway).

That's not to defend the ridiculousness of some of the opinions of their fans though, other than a vague, general statement that it's hard to paint a broad brush for a small team with structural disadvantages that in some ways are worse than ours and Norths. But they still made a lot of dud decisions even with that caveat.

So was Libba jnr (#41, IIRC).
Mitch Wallis used up our 1st that year and Libba didn't get bid on until then either.

Had we told Cordy not to nominate for the draft the previous year and let his get his shoulder fixed properly, he could have been in that draft too and would have cost us pick 63 instead of pick 13!

Yep I was annoyed we didn’t do this with Cordy given he was never going to get games in his first year anyway. Sure it’s draft tampering but the AFL have proved with the Hogan/Viney affair they don’t really care and even with Port back in the day they only copped a $50,000 fine for getting players to delay nominating for 12 months.

No pedigree, or the gene pool is too close.
Wonder if the club has thought about selling Bont as a shuttle stallion when he retires….even before. Imagine it…boys, we’ve asked the supports to donate cash now it’s your turn….

He’s already spruiking the DonateLife program. Maybe we could place him in the IVF (DonateSperm) program?

Of course all the progeny would be ours under the F/S and F/D rules. 😀

All those little Bontempellinis!

The BFL and BFLW spin offs will be great little earners too.

Other clubs' fans pay to watch a Bontempelli play for us, imagine what they'd fork out for a whole team of them!

Lachie Neale - zero tackles...

Having a browse of the Sydney draft thread and the consensus is that the NGA system is a joke and the dogs don't deserve Jamarra but in the same breath the Swans academy is essential because no afl talent would come out of the states otherwise.
One board I stay away from at all cost but if I need a laugh I will have a browse

Nick Blakey would surely have been lost to football if the Sydney academy didn't graciously take him under its wing.
