Is it safe to suggest that A. Moloney & Kearns will also be in the team, currently not sure on Kennedy - but we could have 3, and maybe 4 Irish lasses in the team?

From the playing 21, it would mean nearly 20% of the team come from the other side of the world

19% of our team for Saturday night weren't born in this country - surely we're the Club with the strongest Irish connections

Geelong has named an exciting debutant for their Week 1 clash against Melbourne, with Irish recruit Kate Kenny set to be the 58th AFLW player to pull on the Hoops.

The 22-year-old joined the Cats in March this year, arriving at GMHBA Stadium just under three months ago and taking no time adapting to Australian Rules Football.

Along with Kenny’s debut, Geelong has two additional changes to the team that took on Brisbane in their final game of the 2023 season.

The Cats will also celebrate three individual milestones on Saturday night with Amy McDonald, Mikayla Bowen and Kate Surman all set to play their 50thAFLW game.

Chloe Scheer is the only Geelong player unavailable in Week 1 after the club announced she would miss the first half of the season with a toe injury.

The Cats are expecting a big crowd for their season opener at GMHBA Stadium, with tickets still available through Ticketmaster.

Saturday night’s match will also be broadcast live and free on Channel 7 from 7.00pm, with fans able to catch the pre-game build up and match coverage on K Rock from 6.30pm.

I wonder who will be backing up Darby in the ruck. Parry?

Interesting solution to the Bulldogs AFLW/AFL finals scheduling conflict next Friday...

And how many AFLW fans are going to be locked out from attending that match as they don't have tickets for the elimination final

I dare say that the AFL will also exclude that matches attendance from the crowd count for the trigger clause to extend the season
