Player Watch Father-Son Pick #25 (2019) - Jackson Mead

Sorry but he will never be more than what he is now which isn’t AFL standard. Wouldn’t get listed with another club.

Perryman is after midfield minutes, this is where he’s getting them.

Mead should be playing reserves and until he’s a consistent dominant mid at that level shouldn’t be getting a look at the 1s.

Everyone writing him off, he is a midfielder being played out of position. We have 6 mids to be rotating through the centre 2025.

JHF-Rozee - Resting Full Forward
Wines-Drew - On/Off Bench
Butters-Mead - Resting Half Forwards
Burgoyne-Lorenz-Jackson-Perryman - Wing/Bench

Farrell, BZT, Bergman
L.Evans, Aliir, Jones
Burgoyne, Drew, Perryman
Butters, Lukocious, SPP
Georgiadies, Rozee, Rioli
Sweet, JHF, Mead
DBJ, Sinn, Lorenz, Pick X
Jackson

Probably be fighting with Lorenz, Sinn, possibly Jackson for a starting 22 next year. Just one of those guys who needs to play on the edge week to week to survive at this level.

If we get stuck with Ken next year, trade. Unfortunately under Ken we won't see any change from him.

If we get Carr, definitely keep Mead around for a year or two. See how he performs under a new gameplan / postiion.

Overall, I’m not disappointed Mead was gifted a full year of games; he’s a young player we took early. Better to let him sink or swim than never give him a chance. SANFL is his level for now and will provide some experienced depth if we need, but unless there’s some serious improvement, he shouldn’t be a regular next year.

At present he’s a second string midfielder who’s not capable of playing in any other position.

I certainly wouldn’t delist him, & like others have said he might benefit from playing under a better system.

Took good strides forward from being delist worthy to a genuinely reasonable second string midfielder. It's up to him to take another step and raise his game again.

Yes he would. Players are inconsistent under 50 games. It's not unusual at all. He will be better for the run even though didn't have a good finals series.

Think the only role I can see Mead play is that of Wines' role. I think he's strong in the contest but ball use is a bit questionable. He doesn't have the size of Ollie which is the issue but if he can fill out a bit more maybe he has a role there in the future post Ollie. But he's not a half forward or winger and never will be at AFL level

Yeah, that's the way I see Mead.

He is a good decision maker and usually puts his disposals very much to the advantage of our players but doesn't have the body to go hard or inside game to really complement his outside game.

If he had another string to his bow that would help but he will be played out of position because we have such a strong midfield.

I'm still a bit more wait and see with Mead than most but definitely catching the same feels about his game.

I must have my thumb way off the pulse in my assessment of Meadies year. I had question marks of his fit and position in the squad preseason let alone of his actual qualities or attributes.
I actually think it’s been a massive year for him in terms of development and growth, showed a lot to like and build on in the off season.
Tapered off significantly in the pointy end but half expected with his experience and fitness level. 26 games this year to add to the 7 and 11 he accrued previously.

Crazy that Chad Warner was taken at pick 39. It goes to show that the draft is a lottery and there are many diamonds in the rough and with the right environment, players taken later in the draft can become stars. Just gotta search and do your due diligence.
