Game Day 2024 Trade Period - Lian Yu - that liminal space between trade and draft.

I disagree there wouldn't be a large value attached to the salary cap component. We've seen 1.6 million from Bowes' contract worth pick 7. GC are idiots, yes, but there's not much else to go on for a ballpark value.

Regardless, the more draft capital we give up, the more salary cap relief we get. If you think 9+16 nets us Bolton on $800-$900k, that's fine. I don't think Richmond would be that generous. But if they are, then if we give up 9+10 we can get Bolton for even cheaper salary and I'm taking the extra money. It could be the difference between keeping a best 22 player or losing them. Our salary cap is going to be at breaking point with the amount of stars (league leading for top 100 paid players) we are trying to fit in. People are not appreciating this enough.
Your point is that GC paid pick 7 to get off an inflated contract. That means we should be paid to take on said contract not the other way around.

The only way pick 10 makes sense is if you see paying Bolton net $7-800k a year is a significant discount on his market value. I think it is a small discount hence pick 16 but if you feel it is a big discount then it is 10.

Interesting chat with Jack Riewoldt on GF day on Fox. Mentioned Baker went to the 2018 GF dressed in WC gear and massive Ben Cousins fan.
I still find this bizarre. I understand everyone has a club they love growing up but once you are actually in the league you need to embrace the 'professional' in professional athlete and leave that behind. Anyway here's hoping WC give up pick 13 for a 170cm 26 year old who won't be around when they are actually good again.

And you know what? 4 weeks later and the initial break remained undamaged. Could’ve waited 8 weeks later with the plate still in the arm and he was still at risk of breaking a different part of his arm where the plate anchored. Which is exactly what happened.
Noob question. How does this metal plate stuff work. Do they remove it once the bone has healed or does it remain in there forever?

Good. He’s not worth a first rounder. Let them over pay

Different circumstances. GC had a bit of a salary cap squeeze, Richmond might struggle to pay the minimum

And they had a heap of young high draft picks on their list at that time too. Draft picks up the wazoo essentially, so they could make it rain picks.

In the case of Alex Pearce, will it be removed once his bone heals? Because it sounds like the metal plate actually weakens his arm.
Pretty sure they put a longer one in there now. But that’s a question for his orthopaedic surgeon.

That's not how it works. GC needed help with their salary cap. We need help with our salary cap. Richmond don't. The team needing help coughs up the draft bounty.

It doesn't matter what the discount is relative to what anyone thinks is "market value". The discount is relative to his actual contract, and $700-$800k is a significant discount on $1.2 million. I don't see us getting that discount with pick 16.

If the $1.2M is correct as an annual salary then that shouldn't be our problem though. Bolton should be $800-$900K per year, which in theory we should be able to manage. Therefore there shouldn't be a large value applied to Richmond bringing the salary back to something sensible and still clearing a large net salary off their books while getting two firsts in the process (9 and 16).

I agree. If Bolton is on $1.2m and wants $1.2m then he should stay at Richmond. If he desperately wants to leave to Freo, then he should be prepared to renegotiate a new contract. Seems simple to me.

Why? I don’t want Dris to leave it behind.

And let’s be honest, West Coast can pay him more.

Need someone to make a Gif with Liam Baker taking off a mask like in Mission Impossible to reveal that he is actually 23 year old prime Chris Judd under there. Pick 10... He wouldn't be worth pick 10 if he had 2 years left on his contract.

It's totally different if you are lucky enough to be drafted to the club you supported. But the way Tim Kelly acted. Brockman last year. Now Baker. It's just weird for grown men who've been in the AFL system for years to act like this. And make no mistake if Dris was offered a big contract elsewhere he would have left.

Did Harley Reid have a team he supported growing up ?
Imagine if he went to the GF in those colours as west coast player.
The uproar would be significant
Geelong.

Was an instagram post from when Kelly left bagging out the gross colours he’d be wearing.

We have AA calibre players in Pearce, Cox, Ryan, Clark, Darcy, Jackson, Serong, Brayshaw, Young.

Treacy and Amiss will continue to grow.

Bolton will add to our mix.

Chapman, Walker, Draper, Sharp, Sturt will continue to grow.

We have some solid vets in Wagner, Switta.

Useful vets that need to be managed in Fyfe, JOM, Walters and Aish.

Bloody hell. That was off the top of my head and already at 23 players and would’ve left some off!

Honestly, that first group of 9. If they play to potential, we play in a GF. That’s half of our team on the field.

Erasmus and NOD are far from required but them improving certainly gives us depth and adequate cover.

Inexcusable to miss finals this year.
Honest question. If Lions lost Daniher, McInerney and Harris Andrews, do you reckon they make the 8?

Split the difference and add 27.
Gives Richmond half of the cost of getting 17/18 from Brisbane.

I just feel like we should be able to do the deal and keep one of those very valuable picks.
