We think. Imagine our boys watching this. We'd have made mince meat of them.
Syders slow as a wet week cant get over their HB.
There was a BF thread when us and Sydney were 1 and 2 about finding form or hitting top gear too early in the season.

We obviously had a horrendous form drop, then found form late in the season to finish top 4 and batter Port before losing to what might be the Premiers by 10 points.
It forced us to make changes that worked out for us overall (more time for Holmes in the action, SDK on ball, Blicavs into defence, Stewart into the middle, playing Mannagh etc) that could be how we play next season but also benefited us this season.

When Sydney had their form drop and injuries, they couldn't really play around with positional changes, they had guys just swap in and out and the roles didn't change very much and they were waiting to get guys back into the side in their preferred spot.

Sydney wouldn't have done something so dramatic like Stewart in midfield, or Stanley out for SDK, etc.
I also think some of Sydneys late losses to teams like Port and the Bulldogs showed them areas where you can expose Sydney, where as earlier in the season it was "hey they start slow, you have to batter them early and then hope Goulden/Warner/Heeney/Papley don't go beast mode and they role over you".

That said, Sydney still has the right players to make something of this. I think Sydney will get the margin back down to 15ish points. Its just about whether that uses all the petrol tickets and Brisbane hold on, or do Brisbane roll over since they have given up some big leads this season.

I think we can get better next season.

We peaked the right time and almost went all the way.

Honestly.. If our current side won a flag, i think it would be the worst midfield in recent history to win a flag...that is saying something about our coaching

It is. Because we found our way around the mantra of the midfield rules. One kick off this GF, and smashed the rest.
Bris should not have been close to us, allowed to come home like a train, and now got their mojo up. More than our midfield to blame.
The forced move of Daniher to the ruck has been a Godsend.

The thing about Brisbane is that in these finals they've discovered they can play the chaos game well and that's why they beat us and will probably win the flag.
I credit Brissie for never giving up this year but we lost it when we sprayed all those easy shots in the first quarter!

It all started in the midfield that second half and poor entries into forward 50 being rebounded.

Neale, daniher, dunkley, ashcroft, rayner tore us apart in the middle.

We had nobody who went with them that second half and it destabilizes everything

Rubbish, “what ifs” are BS until you know they aren’t 👎

We lost, Brisbane beat us, Brisbane may well be premiers

You can;t blame people for wondering. I'll bet the players are. Well hopefully it's motivating.
With a BS game like this, let us rue broken dreams. And drink whisky.

Brisbane have Neale, McCluggage, Dunkley, Ashcroft, Berry in the middle... the same guys that smashed us last week after Holmes went off.

We have known all year our midfield was a significant weakness and we needed everything to go right to be a shot. Losing Holmes was literally worst case scenario stuff especially after he was BOG in the QF and BOG to half time.
Oh please this is silly. Until stewart went down holmes wasnt even playing midfield.

Playing sydney without holmes we would of reverted back to stewart in the mids now that he had an extra game back and probably dekonning moves into defence (or duncan back to half back flank)

The way they are playing today we would beat the swans comfortably. This fatalist thinking that cos we just lost means that we could never win is simply a post hoc coping mechanism to deal with our loss last week.

Holmes was very important. But he didnt make us a 8-10 goal better side.

Geez how mentally soft are Sydney.

This makes our last quarter last week look even worse now as we essentially threw away a Bradbury flag. Makes the blood boil really.
