That’s a depressing 22 & depth chart. I hadn’t committed to the exercise of putting it all on paper but now seeing it… let’s not trade F1

I think that 22 is okay, especially so, if the likes of Wardlaw, Kerch, Durrsma, Goater and Powell really come into their own.

However, if the above players don't really develop the way we expect them to, things still look pretty bleak.

B: Archer, Comben, Corr
HB: Daniel, Logue, Goater
C: McKercher, Parker, Scott
HF: Durrsma, Darling, Sheezel
F: Curtis, Larkey, Zurhaar
Foll: Xerri, Wardlaw, LDU
Int: Simpkin, Tucker, Powell, Fisher
Sub: Stephenson

Defensive Depth: Hardeman, Mcdonald, K.Dawson, W.Dawson, Bergman, George

Midfield Depth: Stephens, Phillips, Lazzaro

Forward Depth: Ford, Maley, Payne, Konstanty, Teakle, Pink, RJH.

Ruck Depth: CCJ & Goad

It's quite unbelievable that despite all the drafting of midfielders over the previous 4/5 drafts that we still have absolutely no depth in that part of the ground.
Brisbane Midfielders: Neale, Dunkley, Berry, McCluggage, Ashcroft, Bailey, Fletcher, Reville, Tunstill, Torrent

North Midfielders: Davies-Uniacke, Wardlaw, Sheezel, Simpkin, Parker, McKercher, Powell, Scott, Phillips, Stephens, Lazzaro

Bartel is cool
Easily the most rational person on
Herald Sun's take on our trades.

IN: Jack Darling (West Coast), Caleb Daniel (Western Bulldogs), Luke Parker (Sydney), Jacob Konstanty (Sydney)
OUT: Nil
2024 PICKS: 2, 62
2025 PICKS: No change
Brady Rawlings started the trade period wanting four players and he got four players, just not the best one he wanted. Dan Houston is missing from North Melbourne’s plans, with Jacob Konstanty thrown in late. The Roos didn’t want to dip too far into their draft hand – they put a full hand in like a kid reaching into a showbag. Now they surely have to split pick two and gain a better footprint. How does Jack Darling help? Luke Parker has been brought in for experience, Caleb Daniel couldn’t make it work this year at the Dogs and Konstanty was about to be cut. It may be harsh but these moves on their own don’t make the Roos much better and now they don’t have much draft capital left.
RATING: 3.5/10

Siri. Show me someone who doesn’t watch North play making comments on their list.

Get plodders like CCJ off the books and we're looking better.
Laz,s days are probably numbered, Elvis is at the same crossroads Curtis taylor was at last year and the balls in his court, sleevo cooked will be delisted when his contract expires and is extremely lucky to still have a chair at the table.

pink, drury , bobby dazler and harvey well are in speculative territory and properly have a year to show something,

so potentially 7 or 8 easy calls including CCJ next year.

Guess the flipside is that your best 22 has more players who would rotate through midfield than most.

Parker, Wardlaw, LDU, Simpkin, Powell, Sheezel, and one day soon McKercher - that's 7.

Most teams would have 5 or 6 mids getting 20%+ of overall stoppage time.

eg. After Butters / Rozee/ JHF / Wines / Drew, who has Port got?

Exactly. It's just finding things to whine about for whinings sake. It's so tiring and makes this place so much shitter than it used to be

I can see players like George and Bergman getting a run through the mids too.
Just need to build fitness, strength and size.
You'd expect Lazz and Phillips getting 30+ every week in the VFL next year to keep a spot.
Mids seem to be the easiest spot to find VFL cover.

I'm reliably informed Elvis isn't leaving anything to chance in this off season.

Smart of him if so. He is a fair way off fitness wise, has tricks but tricks aren't enough at AFL level. I still see his best shot being a HHF that really works up the ground as his field kicking is his biggest weapon at the level. Needs to be fit as f to do that though.

6 and 11 seems most likely.

Given we achieved all our goals in the trade period, albeit at a premium, I'd rather we didn't trade our F1 now.
I don’t mind trading in future first, I’d prefer that over splitting 2 to be honest. If we keep 2 and really do take best available we will very nearly get an automatic jet. With being able to trade futures two years in advance from next year we will have opportunities to trade back into the first round if there is someone we really like. We could take a leaf out of melbournes book re this tactic, something they are actually good at.

but thats the thing, its a really close draft, 2 likley wont be much better than 8

I would have liked to see him tried as a defender last season. Has some toughness, did a nice defensive job on Sicly in 23, good overhead and a nice kick. Would have been better than some we tried or persisted with.

We should just pay a few out and be done with it. We have the Houston money.
I know what you mean, but guys like CCJ and Stephenson were probably front loaded and are still only 25.

Last season of the contract. They have some talent, it will be interesting to see how they react with footy abyss looming.

I can cop it one more year.

Guys like laz, cooper and drury we should run a line through right now.

Very happy with our trade period. My only gripe is we've still got our F3, I thought that could have been used in the Luke Parker trade.

Nope 2 for 6 and 10/11 or we hold
Yes. Don't take less than that.

And if a 6 to 8 player clear out is potentially on the cards next year then keeping future picks might be a smart move. If we trade next year's first round selection for unders then we'll be kanga-rooted
