Isn't this where the salary cap (should) work though? There is no cap in the EPL and hence the strong clubs get stronger and stay stronger. Plenty in the AFL system are motivated by the $$ and will go to lower clubs for a bigger payday and therefore spread the talent. If they want to go to a...
This, this and more this. Once the draft and salary cap were brought in, Carlton were destined for decline. Not being able to just go to the WAFL and SANFL and get the cheque book out was always going to kill them. It's only taken 30 years but I think they are starting to get it.
I think the rule is that as it was in front of the goal square, you are not allowed to thump it through. If I knew how to embed a link, this would help.

The Geelong v St.Kilda game in 2009. Michael Gardiner took a big grab late to kick the winner for the Saints. Cracking game and extremely high skill level.
Another contributing factor to this is that the AFL clubs (in fact 99% of sports teams in Australia), give the media NOTHING. I don't know if its the 1950's attitude of "don't say anything that might fire up the opposition!!!!" or other factors. Access to the players, coaches is so regimented...
To say I am excited by this would be an understatement. I have been waiting for these for YEARS. I was at the 1984 WA v Vic game as a kid. Great days.
That said, for pure quality of football, the 1992 SA vs Vic game in Adelaide is the best game I have ever seen. Some insane skills on display...
Anyone got a recent update on how well the AFL International watch pass is going? I need it for September when I am in the USA, but don't want to fork out hard earned if it is a dud? Any improvement at all?
I want the replay kept just so we get to see the world's biggest game of "Simon Says...hands on heads!" when the siren goes and scores are level.
Actually, no I don't, it's ridiculous.
I *really* hope this is an April Fools joke.
In all of my 43+ years on this planet, most of which spent supporting footy, this could be the dumbest thing I have ever read.
A leading player agent has called for banning a tackle when a player isn't ready for it. Are you kidding me?
I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not, but for the sake of the post, I'll assume it isn't.
Solution - don't get sh*tfaced during the day. Problem solved.
Question on this. Do they have the weekly/monthly pass things during the season? I am looking ahead to when I am in the USA next September *ugh* and would like to watch the games on my tablet. Assuming I can use the app overseas of course!
I honestly think the biggest problem is that he doesn't act like a flog any more. He thrives on that. I can't stand him, but if I was his coach, I would be telling him to go out there and annoy the living sh*t out of everyone. Seems to fire him up and get him going as well.
I an no lawyer and far from the most intelligent person on the planet, but how can things be backdated? "Hey Mr Murderer, we have convicted you of killing someone in 1982 and given you a 30 year sentence. Since the offence was back then, we backdated it, so you can now walk free if you sign this...
Hoping someone can help me with this.
If team A had two potential father/son selections in a given year, would they be able to get them?
If they have to burn a first round pick for player A as another club bid for him, and then another club bids for player B, is the second round pick enough...
Ah ok I got that point wrong, thanks for clearing that up. Still, both Le Cras and Fyfe were given two weeks each. One was able to reduce it with an early plea due to a good record, one was not. Saying one got less than the other for the offence isn't correct.
Still cannot believe the rubbish I am reading here. "One point away from a decade of misery"? Yeah, it sure was horrible all those years spanking team after team on those great afternoons at Subi. And those multiple finals appearances. Go ask a Bulldogs fan what a decade of misery is like...
I really cannot believe all the negative talk regarding Sumich. The bloke has served a huge apprenticeship, had two years of learning from arguably the best coach in the league and has also had experience as a head coach at South Fremantle. Does it really matter who it is? All I care about is an...
Maxwell soft? I can't agree with that.
It's Murphy. Nobody even close. The next hard ball he gets will be the first. Doesn't help that when he did actually go in, he ended up with a broken bone. (Dangerfield I think?)
I am amazed nobody has mentioned just how woeful the WACA was to watch football! The sight lines were shocking plus dead pockets where seating was no good (old members area). Just a terrible venue to watch football at. It may be better since the re-development, but having worked there for two...
