Is that much different to us though?
Keays
Hinge
Dawson
Peatling
ANB
Cumming
Rankine
Keane ex Pies
Plus we recruited Gibbs after Danger left us, it's on us that the value of those picks aren't still on our list.
Wouldn't have thought any of those were considered high end talents when acquired. And outside of Danger, Cats tend to pay market rates. In the same period we've traded into or picked up discards like Gibbs, Betts, Dawson, Rankine, Keays, Hinge, ANB and Cumming. Geelong don't really stand out...
Who have they brought in though? Danger a decade ago for a mid first and second, Jezza effectively for Kelly lost and now Smith off a knee reco. Am is missing a bunch of top talent acquisitions?
If we deduct 8 for ruck and backline, we have 14 spots;
Tex, TT, Fog
ANB, Keays, Rachele
Soligo, Dawson, Rankine
Sholl
That leaves 4 spots for Crouch, Berry, Curtin, Draper, Dowling, Taylor, Spuddy & Pedlar.
And forget about massaging the backline to create spots;
Murray, Worrell...
Car chases are the most boring thing in the world. Well, maybe yachting, but any chase in a movie is generally just a filler. Except Blues Brothers for hilarity and then The Other Guys as it provided context. Otherwise chase scenes are almost always boring filler.
I don't think it's that at all. As Stab said, it's about pressure applied to opposition entries into their forward line. Our midfield is often burnt off allowing pressureless entries directed at actual targets. Our entries, whilst improving, are still over represented with hack or...
How is it even possible to thumbs down this post? Come on Mutineer , you made an idiotic call referencing an award that mostly has only 1 winner each year and which a ruck winning would be an absolute rarity. Surely you can be a big enough person to just wear the loss and move on. Thumbs...
The difference is that when Suns picked him up he had just turned 22 years old with only 44 games under the belt, off an injury cruelled season and output near enough to identical to Murphy. Bit different when there's a 115 game history of being not a liability about 1 in every 6 weeks.
That’s my point, thanks for reinforcing it. He’s a rare beast, the players that ended up being mids at that height are Bont and Nash. Defaulting to progression rates of KPPs and rucks seem a little simplistic, given that’s not the type of player he looks like becoming. He already moves well...
Has Tex not been doing the drills till now? I’d have thought the odd session running laps or in the rooms would be pretty standard preparation at his age and taking into account his back last year.
Not at any point in Stab's response to you did he mention his own personal views. Your response has no relevance to his post whatsoever, unless your view is that Stab represents the entire Adelaide BF board.
Was it? Pretty sure the club had a go at it first and, on average, the board was quick to criticise it. There's a lot more posters saying he's no KPD than there are posts saying he is. But then, you're pretty good at getting your view of the general consensus 100% back to front.
Ok, but using him to gauge trajectory is a bit flawed given his pathway into the league. And I'm not sure that he was pegged as a stoppage mid from the get go. Either way, it's very difficult to find a perfect comparison to measure Curtin's development against. There's a lot of factors...
That just sounds like he’s not a gangly kid, if he was 85kg I’d agree. If he’s going to be a stoppage rotation mid, then his pathway should align more with Bont than key position gorillas. That’s just how it is.
Sure, but nobody looked at the way Butts moved around and saw a stoppage midfielder. We might have to throw the age old tropes like ‘big guys take time’ out the window. How much of that is due to building the strength required to compete directly against opposition? If he’s going to be a mid...
It’s not an argument, I’m just proposing a better comparison than Fyfe. At least in my opinion. There’s not really anyone else to compare to, if he ends up being a 197cm mid, he’ll be the first.
Consistent finalists off not many high end draft picks and trading in dregs. They must be heaps better than us at everything else related to preparing a footy team.
