Canberra Kangaroos and the Southern Saints has a nice ring to it. Can’t see it happening though, I think the next stage will be a 20 team comp (whenever that may be)
I mean even the name, it should have been the Victorian Rebels and this is coming from someone born and raised in Melbourne. Rugby had the potential to be a true national competition but they royally f*cked it up
Do you mean dingley? It has been postponed but still needed quite a bit of fundraising/government assistance before it was going to be anywhere near complete. From what I understand Moorabbin was set to go for the final stage. I went and watched the saints first AFLW game and the pre season...
Well Jeff’s gone at the end of the season so that’s not going to happen. Moving games to Tassie was a great move at the time but I think its time move on, my main concern is how many members we might lose and wether we’ll pick up more Melbourne based fans, this is something GWS will also have to...
I probably should have been more specific in my post, I meant a gradually move away from Canberra so the club can focus their efforts on Sydneys West. Ideally that would involve playing out of Blacktown during the Easter show at a AFL standard stadium around the 15k mark. I hadn’t taken public...
All the Canberra games should be played at Blacktown, focus should be on the suburbs of Western Sydney.
Nothing against the fans from Manuka I just think GWS (despite doing great work in the area) should put all their effort into the Sydney market.
I know this looks hypocritical as I’m a...
I can only see the AFL going to either:
-Newcastle/ Central Coast
-North Queensland (playing games out of Cairns and Townsville)
-South Sydney/ ACT Riverina
New Zealand will go back to StKilda once there is a suitable stadium.
Accessibility is first and foremost definitely, but to say game day experience had nothing to do with it is quite a big call. The AFL themselves even mention the game experience being a factor
Do you actually know how to read? the fact that the majority of the fans live in that geographical area is the economical reason, I even gave you an example with Geelong and used your own theory as to why Western United want to build a stadium in the western suburbs for the same reasons.
I think you should go back and actually read some of my post before rambling on and proving my point in your own comment. Not once have I argued that the demographic centre of Melbourne is outside the CBD, I said for the clubs mentioned (hawthorn, st. kilda and Melbourne) the vast majority of...
You’ve completely missed my point, I’m not arguing for games to moved anywhere and have said that from the beginning. I’ve stated in my posts that the CBD is absolutely the best place for games to remain for several reasons. My point was that hypothetically if there were to be a third stadium...
But the clubs being mentioned have the vast majority of their supporter base in the south east region, again it should definitely stay in the CBD but you’re the only person using the word “special”. It’s never going to happen but there is a reason reason the region is often suggested and it’s...
I agree it should stay in the CBD but I don’t think anyone is claiming the south east is “special” it’s just where the majority of the population is spread geographically
The only way I could see anything like this happening is if they built a boutique 30k stadium that is actually comfortable and designed properly somewhere around Dandenong near the East Link and the train line. St Kilda, Hawthorn and Melbourne could play 4-5 games a season there against low...
Ideally (IMO) the league should have been this for at least 5 years:
Melbourne
Collingwood
Carlton
(Geelong or Wst Bullies it’s debatable)
Brisbane
GWS
Adelaide
West Coast
Queensland has way more women/girls playing football than Tasmania, so no I don’t think GC over Tas was the wrong call. I do however question whether expansion was a good idea at all this early on though
Something has to drastically change if rugby is going to survive in Australia, but quite frankly I have no idea what they can do to save this snicking ship.
Tasmania
Canberra
Newcastle
North Queensland
And to a lesser extent New Zealand and the Sunshine Coast are all better options and would be a higher priority for the AFL then NT. People seriously have no idea how small the place is
Call me crazy but I actually think Tassie getting a NBL team could improve their chances of getting an AFL club. They should look at having at setup like Barcelona do with soccer and basketball.
Edit: obviously Barcelona have a far bigger population, are a hugely recognised brand globally and...
