Yes it has. The orginal post I made, was in the first half dozen replies to a new thread titled "Jake Stringer to North" (created within the past week and a half or so). This thread we are talking in now is an older thread, has been merged together with the "Stringer to North" thread. Facts...
I hate these standalone threads. They go for hundreds of pages but when have they ever resulted in us getting said player?
-Josh Caddy to North
-Dustin Martin to North
-Josh Kelly to North
-and now Jake Stringer to North
Seriously the "______ to North" title threads are the kiss of death and...
Admittedly Kelly is the better player at the moment. But how is it even remotely like Urquhart and Pendlebury???
Firstly, Luke's rookie year had already well and truly eclipsed anything that Urquhart has produced for his entire AFL career (so comparing him to Urquhart is just plain insulting)...
I love this guy. Mark my words, he will explode to another level next year. Reminds me of a young Luke Hodge.
Hypothetical question:
Josh Kelly for Luke McDonald straight swap. Would you take it?
Sounds crazy and super tough choice, but I'd just about say 'no'. That's how much I rate...
If I had to re-pick the draft tomorrow, I would choose:
Top 10:
Bont
Merrett
Kelly
Brown
Cripps
Billings
Crouch
Fantasia
Laird
McDonald
Top 11+
Hunt
ZJones
Rampe
Lobb
Sicily
Nankervis
Dunstan
Acres
McCarthy
Sheed
Taylor
Dumont
Salem
Boyd
Just my opinion and who I would choose in that order...
Regardless of my opinion, it's definitely a 'no' from the club. No chance in hell they give up Simpkin. So not even worth talking.
I'd be against it, but can see them giving up a player like Durdin though.
It was a funny game by Durdin. Played really well at times, good hands and agility. But at other times just let Walker mark almost uncontested. Maybe due to lack of strength or laziness.
Either way, think building up some body strength over the preseason will work wonders.
I think will go after Hopper if we miss Kelly. More in the optimum target age range for our rebuild. Only reason we are going after Martin at 26 y/o, is because simply he's Dustin Martin. If the best player in the league is up for grabs (and you don't need to give up any players/picks for him)...
Ask yourself truthfully:
If a player had two equivalent 'hundreds of thousands of dollar' contracts in front of them to choose from: One from a team they supported all their life/have family connections etc and one from a team which they have no kind of emotional connection with. Do you really...
Seeing as how he had never been part of a successful team up until this point of his career...he may well just figure '**** it, not much is going to change either way' and take the money anyway.
...Except we won't be getting the number 2 pick. It'd be pick 1 for a loss, pick 4 for a win.
Lions have a lot less to lose draft order-wise for winning. Hence they are not tanking.
Theory may have some merit to it. Jacobs lacked confidence and to be fair probably wouldn't of cut it at AFL level (subpar). But once he became good tagger, it appeared it greatly improved other aspects of his game as well.
Trent Cotchin, without a doubt. Got completely towelled by Jacobs in their last final. I feel like his perceived 'elite status' amongst the AFL general community, took a massive hit after that. Which may or may not be unfair for just one poor, albeit very important game. May have even tarnished...
I agree. I was sad that we couldn't snare him last year along with Ahern, but Carlton got him. You guys got him for an absolute bargain as well. Oh well can't complain really, we got Paul for basically nothing.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I heard there was a rule you can't trade your 1st rounder for consecutive years? Or it's allowed?
Edit: Actually nvm checked, it's allowed.
Take your supporter hats off for the moment and make a predicition on where these players end up at the end of 2017. I'll go first:
Dustin Martin: Richmond/
Josh Kelly: Saints
Todd Goldstein: North
Bryce Gibbs: Adelaide
Steven Motlop: Port
Jacob Hopper: GWS/
Jake Lever: Adelaide
Levi Casboult...
