He played just about every game in 2012, no injuries to speak of and got what, 4 Brownlow votes ? Methinks the Bombers are paying way overs at $800k for an outside receiver who ponces around aggro every time he gets beaten to the ball. The Saints are on the right track. How many good players...
I think its funny that the Hawk's supporters on this board feel the necessity to stick up for Shoenmakers. He is clearly the weakest link in an otherwise outstanding team. Contrary to what the Shoenmakers Defence Team might tell us, he'd only get a game elsewhere for GWS and Gold Coast. Talk of...
Personally I think it's our best draw in recent memory. Definite Top 4 potential if we get our act together.
- Only play the 2011 Top 4 once and the Pies and the Cats not till late in the season.
- We play the bottom 2 teams in 2011 in the first two rounds.
- Play the Suns and GWS at Etihad...
As much as I love Harvs, I don't see him as a big loss. I just hope he isn't lost to the club long term and can come back in some capacity in the future.
On a cynical note, Banger might be a jinx. When he was playing in the 2000's we couldn't get past the Prelim under Thomas or Lyon. He goes...
Re: Scott Watters is the new coach of St Kilda (Source: Herald Sun)
Great choice Saints. A coach at the cutting edge. So was Lyon for that matter, but I feel like we've traded him in for the newest model. Can't wait for test drive.
If Fat Boy Hutchy has gone out on a limb naming Richardson as coach, that will make it all the sweeter when Watters or Hinkley is named. Somebody throw the sook a pie.
In his playing days at Carlton, Fev clearly had a soft spot for the Saints when he appeared on the Footy Show. He repeatedly mentioned that he had plenty of mates at St.Kilda and his name has oftened been linked to us.
Whether that would equate to us recruiting him is another thing entirely...
I've been tipping a Watters-Hinkley quinella for three weeks and still see no reason to change. Reckon its a real flip of the coin but forced to choose I'll go Watters. Experience in 5 consecutive grand finals is hard to ignore. I think he'll be named tomorrow arvo.
Just a thought on recycled coaches -
At the start of 2011 the only coaches with prior senior AFL coaching experience when first appointed at their clubs were Malthouse and Eade. Both were shafted by season end and replaced by rookie coaches.
In 2012 there will only be Lyon and Sheedy who...
An interesting comparison of Ross Lyon to Ken Hinkley. Okay, it doesn't mean anything but funny co-incidence all the same.
Lyon and Hinkley were both born in 1966.
Both played their first football at Fitzroy.
Lyon played 129 games - Hinkley played 132 games.
Lyon played from 1985-1995...
Strange to look back to Round 1 and think that nearing 3/4 time the Cats had scored only one goal against us at the 'G'. How differently our two respective seasons turned out after that.
Sure, its restaint of trade by the Pies if they enforce it but Malthouse would probably have to go to court to prove it. Everyone knows what a stubborn p.rick Eddie can be when he wants to be.
It was definitely written into Mick's last contract that he couldn't coach anywhere else in 2012...
With Eade looking likely to head to the Pies I reckon it's a two horse race between Watters and Hinkley. Beginning to think they may warm to Hinkley's longer time in the system. My odds would be about about 2.75 Hinkley, 3.00 Watters.
I think you'll find he is contracted to the Pies as Director of coaching for 2012, but that the Pies won't enforce it if he wishes to leave. However, should he put his hand up for the Saint's gig that's a very different matter. Eddie Beetroothead has indicated that the Pies will take anyone to...
Yeah, you gotta love it. Nerds like Hutchinson, Barrett, Sheahan and Robbo are so full of their own self importance. Like they are some important part of the game. I love it especially when they get on TV quoting an unnamed source (meaning they've made it up) about a big "exclusive" story. Then...
Good post. Swans can rebuild without bottoming out and we have better top-end talent than they do. Personally, I lament Misson's departure more than Lyons.
Re: 2011 Media Thread
Ever wondered why they are ex-coaches ? Because they are too old or not bloody good enough. Why do we need one ? The Saints have kept it relevant. No complaint from me.
Okay, here's my twenty cents worth from a fan who's sadly seen it all too many times before.
When Ross Lyon first walked into the club, he said that in his time in football the Saints had never given enough consideration to defence. Boy, did he fix that ! However, times soon change and clearly...
