    Ben Hart Joins Collingwood

Quality bloke, good football brain. Very pleasing result for the club and for Buckley personally.

Collingwood BF posters at GF - Updated Seating List - post 219

Re: Collingwood BF posters at GF - Updated Seating List - post 163 Standing room (M20). This is a splendid outcome, since IIRC the last time I sat down at a game (for reasons other than injury or incapacity) was in the late 1970s.

Did the pies just play their GF?

Unquestionably true, but Wood takes big contested grabs in defence and uses the ball pretty effectively. If Collingwood get done it won't be because of the absence of Jolly.

    The Cloke vs Franklin influence

Franklin is an awesome player and clearly the dominant forward, if not footballer full stop, in the competition. Some Collingwood people feel, rightly or wrongly, that Cloke's ability, endeavour (his work off the ball, for example) and, increasingly, consistency, is insufficiently recognised...

Did the pies just play their GF?

If Geelong go through they will clearly be favoured on the basis of Collingwood's less than optimal form and injury concerns. That said, there are plenty of Pies who might reasonably be expected to improve on last night's performance, ruck contests ≠ clearances, and anybody who thinks Cam Wood...

The Pies - How do they do it?

Specifically, picking up pick 8 (Ben Reid) and Medhurst for Tarrant, and having the foresight to identify that having Dawes on the sidelines for a year was a small price to pay at pick 28. Quite happy with Nathan Brown at 10 as well.

    Sexual assault allegations

Re: The official 'win a flag and become more depressed than ever' thread. It's only ruined if you let it be ruined. If you don't worry about it now (which let's be frank is completely unproductive in any event), if you don't let people get at you about it, then nothing will be lost if there...

    Sexual assault allegations

Re: The official 'win a flag and become more depressed than ever' thread. The law will take its course and all we can do is support the club in subsequently doing the right thing, whatever that is. If, and I say if, one of those 22 players turns out to be have been a ****ing arseh*le, it takes...

Collingwood player involved in alleged sexual assualt

    Absolutely and categorically this.

    Cannot sleep thread.

Up since quarter to five pacing around the house to the accompaniment of occasional commentary along the lines of "How ****ing old are you? 12?" from the missus.

Hypothetical. Top 25 ( NFL and College ) Football Announcers Flown to AFL Grand Final.

Good NFL radio commentators are absolutely unbelievable, given the complexity of what they're trying to fit in between description and analysis, although radio contracts and their associated ad hoc networks are run by the teams rather than the league, so the coverage can quite often make K-Rock...

Anyone think we can actually win next week?

I doubt it. Between March and August he represents continued depth in forward pressure, which is an important strategic area for us. If he's surpassed in this respect by more than one player over the summer, he's probably going to have limited opportunities, though.

A considered rebuttal from a Pies fan: go and get stuffed

I liked it too. It reminds me that, unlike all but a handful of our "rivals", for the majority of the last 109 years we've been there at the business end having a crack. I'd love to have seen us win more flags, but our boys know that we are unlike the half-hearted, fair weather rabbles with...

It's best if Eddie and co keep quiet re the brownlow

The Brownlow has always been a farce and the umpires proverbially vote like thirteen year old girls. It doesn't matter. We should STFU and win a ****ing flag.

    Just give Collingwood the cup.

Wartime flags (1915-1918 and 1940-1945, since the relevant seasons were almost over when both wars broke out): Carlton (2), Collingwood (1), Essendon (1), Fitzroy (2), Melbourne (2), Richmond (1), South Melbourne (1) Moron.

    2006 draft reimagined....

Frawley is a good player and had an excellent year. He's two or three years ahead of Reid in opportunities, though. I wouldn't want to call it at this stage.

Hawthorn has lost it's chance at dominance

Hawthorn have enough top quality players (awesome, in a few instances) with enough good years ahead of them that they can challenge again. A bit of luck in the off-season with the list (ruck? defender?) and, as has been noted above, with injury and they could go again in 2011. If that doesn't...

Where are the Daisy Thomas critics these days?

Most neutral observers who actually watch football had jumped off the "Thomas is soft" thing by the end of 2009 at the latest. You still hear people saying it, but it's a pretty good indicator that they don't know what they're talking about.

Toast Didak is an absolute ****ing gun!

Didak has elevated every part of his game in the last couple of years and is now unarguably one of the best players in the competition.

Is it for the best if we have another defeat before the finals?

No. A loss would be more distracting than the pressure to keep winning. Momentum is our friend in relation to focus.

    I'm not offended. "We". Beautiful.

Bumped Daisy is an A grader (new posts start at #59)

He significantly improved his defensive play in the course of last season and has begun to reintegrate his game this year. If he maintains the form and versatility he's shown this year, and perhaps improves the consistency of his disposal, he could reasonably be regarded as A grade. Murphy has...

I thought the most impressive thing about Wellingham's game last night was his composure.

Roast Joel Selwood - A Cheat?

Selwood clearly ducks more often than you would want to see in a player of his ability, and it's a blemish on his game. That said, he also cleverly forces players to go high by changing direction (through his torso, not dropping the head), which either busts him loose or draws the free.

    Toast Travis Varcoe

Varcoe is an excellent player. Cool head, amazing endeavour.
