As awkward as it is to award a prize to myself, we live in strange times due to covid and social distancing. All I'll say is that unlike past seasons when I moved myself around the ground, I stayed at CHB all season and was the beneficiary of that. In a year where team results often didn't go our way, I didn't quite reach the heights of last year (which took me to all-SFA CHB and VC of the all-SFA team) but I still won the majority of my one-on-ones and finished as the highest rated CHB in the league (but not the nerdiest - eth-dog still wins that prize) . In my first full year as captain, I've endeavoured to provide a steadying presence in defence with a mix of accountable defence and proactive rebound. I'm proud to win this award right after former captain Test Tickle , and I look forward to another former all-SFA defender and former captain of ours, JoshWoodenSpoon , claiming this award next season when he returns to the field as a player (that hack is useless as coach) .
Does my anime obsession win it?

Congratulations to Metalcrusher on winning the prestigious Leading Goalkicker award for the second year in a row. Vice Captain campaignery was a true barometer of our team - he began the season as the Fred favourite before fading later in the season. Despite his mid/end of season slump which was compounded by covid-safe travel, he still finished the year with an impressive 60 goals. This not only made him the Bears' highest goalkicker by far (despite Muddiemoose 's goalkicking curse this year) , but also kept him in the frame for an all-SFA berth on the basis of being the third best forward in the league based on exie. Offield, he continued to demonstrate that he has the perfect temperament of a big full forward - never afraid to fly the flag , a strong and fierce competitor , incredibly loyal and yes a little selfish too. Behind the scenes he is a big softy and a nerd at heart like the rest of us. Crushy is deservedly a Mateflon favourite tonight too. Congratulates Campaignery.

Congratulations to tony on winning the highly regarded Best Club Player Award
tony has been my right hand man for much of the season. Never afraid to put the team first, he began the year in midfield before volunteering to return to defence for team balance, even if it impacted his all-SFA chances . He had a statistically brilliant but underrated year again whilst continuing to grow as a leader offield. He is best known by many outside our club for his brilliant simpsons gifs /graphics and general "quality over quantity" approach to posting. The mountain of work and dedication he puts into whatever he is involved in (whether that's the Rising Star award with Chipmunk , or preparations for the BnF tonight for the second season in a row) isn't as well known, but just as if not more appreciated . Well done tony - you are a true asset to the Las Vegas Bears.

I can take no credit for the Rising Star work (I mean literally I did nothing), but I will bathe in reflected glow!

Congratulations to Broken for taking out the prestigious Captains Award
A league immortal who took months to convince out of retirement before saying no... only to change his mind on the eve of the season, he has been a revelation for us this season. In a year that at times mimicked his Career (early sim success but cruelly fading away at the pointy end ) , it's fitting that he notched a milestone against his beloved Roys and that thread ended up being a celebration of a fantastic career. We are still rebuilding after a tough few seasons onfield and offield and Matera92 aside, remain a relatively young/inexperienced group. If Dingster was my external PA, Broken was my internal one, offering support, enthusiasm , wit and class all in equal measure. His roulette game was brilliant (even if it was probably a little rigged based on the margin of tony 's win) , but so too was his match posting and involvement in our team PM. Despite or maybe because his 11th hour signing consigned him to starting the year at CHF, his enthusiasm never waned, and this year would've been so different without him. He continues to be an ideas man. Broken's representation in many of the sets of opposition votes and the unanimous vote to play on in his media thread asking if he should retire is a reflection of the high standing he has in the league even today , but he is also a true friend of mine, and enemy of the Death Eaters. Well done Broken.

After 12 rounds it shapes as a two horse race , with Star Ruckman Muddiemoose extending his earlier 1 vote lead to just 2 votes over Metalcrusher

Season 31 Round 13 Coney Island Warriors 15.10 (100) defeated by Las Vegas Bears 15.13 (103) at Van Cortlandt Park

Writeup by Matera92

Travelling to this shithole is always a challenge, especially when you know what’s waiting for you there. Picture travelling 5 hours to visit your uglier, less successful, angry little brother. He lives in a trailer and drinks cheap booze while only showering once a week.

Warrior Team Meeting

The only satisfaction you get from this biannual trip is that you get to rub in their faces how much better your life is, and lord it over the Warriors we did.

Metalcrusher, in tried and true style, flattened a can of their cheap piss on his head and sunk a snagger late in the game to give the Bears a win, only to be chased out of town by the angry locals with their club footed gaits.

Season 31 Round 14 Las Vegas Bears 12.9 –(81) defeated by. Sin City Swamprats 14.7 – (91) at The Stadium In The Sky

We were flying high after our win over the Warriors and determined to relaunch our season against the Swamprats. After Tarkyn_24 ‘s minimalist approach to the match thread OPs, it was a quality week against philreich , jackster83 SarahSmiles , GremioPower and co. . The goodwill was put aside as both teams gave it their all on what ended up being a hard fought contest on match day. Unfortunately the rats had the edge all day and lead at every change , consigning us to a disappointing 10 point loss .

Classy veteran Matera92 (30 disposals , 8 marks, 106 DT) was best on ground and shortened his Chippybet odds of #Matera4Mobbs . He and guero (24 disposals, 9 marks, 91 DT points ) were the main beneficiaries of the dominance of ruckman Muddiemoose (25 disposals , 10 hitouts, 88 DT, 2 goals) . Evergreen rookie RookiePick (game high 3 goals) wound back the clock and gave his opponent a hiding , whilst Millky95 (77 DT points, 22 disposals, 1 goal) also had a night out after swiping right.

Round 31 Round 15 Mount Buller Demons 11.5 (71) defeated by Las Vegas Bears 15.12 (102) at Snow Dome
Writeup by Millky95

With finals still mathematically possible, the Bears needed to put their best foot forward when travelling to the Snow Dome to face the Mount Buller Demons for the 2nd time in the season. And best foot forward they did kicking the opening 5 goals of the game, including 2 to forward Metalcrusher to take a 27 point lead at the first break. When the Demons began to take back some control in the middle of the 2nd, a quality goal to ruckman Muddiemoose steadied the ship as the Bears applied the pressure to kick 6 goals to 3 and taking a 46 point lead at the half.

The 3rd term was hotly contested as both teams upped their defensive pressure. The Demons managed to break the lines a bit more often and score 3 goals but a late goal to RookiePick helped the Bears maintain a 34 point lead. With the 4 points up for grabs the Bears nearly kicked themselves out of the game, kicking 3.6 for the term but the early work in the game allowed them to run out 31 point leaders.

Season 31 Round 16 Las Vegas Bears 15.10 (100) defeated Dragons FFC 11.9 (75) at The Stadium In The Sky

Writeup by Muddiemoose

Round 16 was our re-match against the Dragons in what turned out to be a fantastic team win for the bears in a lower scoring game. After a few games of giving up leads the bears had done some hard work in playing consistently over 4 qtrs and it definitely paid off. We defended an 18 point lead at 3qtr time and turning it into a 24 point victory.

There were no real standout players on field with everyone playing unselfish Qooty just to get the 4 points. Broken and Millky’s leadership and experience was definitely a major factor with Moose kicking 2 goals proving the curse is definitely over.

Season 31 Round 17 Fighting Furies 10.5 (65) defeated Las Vegas Bears 7.6 (48) at rfctigerarmy’s hippodrome

Buoyed by our win the previous week which kept our slim chances alive, we headed to the hippodrome to face the confirmed Wooden Spooners, the Furies in a must-win game for us. Dingster treated us to a Finals OP and Broken outlined the results which had to go our way in order for us to squeeze into the finals.

On matchday , Wosh treated us to some excellent live ladder updates to accompany her matchposting, but unfortunately, we seemed to have played our elimination final the previous week. In a low scoring game full of errors , we managed a slim 2 point lead at quarter time. The Furies fought back in the second quarter and had a 1 goal advantage at half time. We needed to lift in the third quarter but unfortunately, could not match their energy or tenacity as they surged to a 4 goal lead in the third quarter en route to a 17 point win which ended our season and left us all Broken hearted.

In a resume-material performance, Muddiemoose (12 hitouts and a game high 69 DT points) once again had the edge over reigning beez medallist Tigerturbulance , which allowed HBF tony to push forward into the midfield and have an impact (19 disposals, 63 DT points) alongside partner in crime guero (16 disposals, 8 marks, 60 DT points). Metalcrusher kicked 3 valuable goals on a low scoring day whilst the evergreen FP Jezmiester40 added 2 of his own off limited supply. Overall though, it was a disappointing end to a season which promised so much.

A huge congratulations to Muddiemoose for taking home the most prestigious award of the night, the Mateflon Medal in just his second year at the club and the league. Mentored by one of the best in the business , U2tigers last year , he dominated in Ruck to not only be the best Ruckman in the league and the best player in our team statistically , but also the best player in the league regardless of position based on DT/exie. Offield, he relished his role as a leader and continued to be inspiring . He offers far more than Moose gifs. Always willing to fly the flag in the threads , he backs it up by volunteering to help out with everything from last minute writeups to recruitment for next season, all the while whilst never seeking recognition for it. Well done Moose on a well deserved Mateflon to cap off an outstanding year.

5. I Dont Care

Here's a special shout out to I Dont Care - making 5th from BP is no mean feat given the qooty component. So it was almost entirely on the back of posting.
You are a true gun. And in all honesty if you didn't have a corrupt captain (thank Matera92 - he taught me well), you would've won best defender too!

Also, thank you to Muddiemoose , Millky95 , Matera92 and tony for your help with the writeups/votes , tony for your help with the graphics, and many opposition posters/LG members including Chipmunk , manangatang , TheInjuryFactory , Tonga Bob , Genghis Tron , Dingster , Mozzie19 , The Filth Wizard , serial_thrilla , philreich , Antonio BlueVein , Tigerturbulance and Ned_Flanders for your help with the opposition votes. And of course to my bestie por_please_ya - the night wouldn't have been anywhere near as fun without you.

See you all at the League Awards next week
But until then, it's time to relax. Butterbeer on the house of course!
And Happy Birthday again Wosh

Dingster , Bears life member and legend, arrives fashionably late with a Bollywood entrance before taking his VIP spot at the front of the room

Who is your tip to win the Mateflon Medal?
The Moose!! Winnings to be donated to the Bears end of season trip.
You're off to Cancún Bears. All inclusive end of season trip.

Grats Muddiemoose on the Mateflon.
