Chad Warner
When the Sydney Swans swept up Chad Warner with pick 39 at the 2019 AFL Draft, they secured a youngster with an insatiable appetite for the contest. Warner attacks the ball and opponents with aggression and is relishing calling midfield bulls Josh Kennedy and Luke Parker his teammates at the Swans. Warner impressed for Western Australia in the 2019 AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging 18.2 touches (50 per cent contested), 3.2 clearances and 6.8 tackles per game. He also tallied an average of 27.1 disposals, 6.4 clearances and 7.4 tackles per match at Colts level for East Fremantle in 2019. He earned his AFL debut against Richmond in Round 6 of the 2020 season, recording eight disposals and two tackles.

Chad Warner
DOB: 19 May 2001
DEBUT: 2020
DRAFT: #39, 2019 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Willetton (WA)/Aquinas College (WA)/East Fremantle (WAFL)

You cannot change a players desire to leave. Either be pragmatic about it and go along with it and take the scraps that you get in return, or be angry that AFL rules allow players to be traded between clubs. I prefer the former.

He has his priorities. The Swans have their desires.

BTW I reckon he will stay for 2. i think he knows he is on a good wicket. Then leave(but we may convince him otherwise by then). But I am not privy to any intel. Just his partners desire to go home.

I am just joking around. I think he will stay as well.

Assuming Warner is one of the best 20 players in the league at the end of the year, which he is now, I would say 3 and another first round pick between 10 and 15 would be a fair trade.

West Coast would still be winning that deal.
Ok so with the ladder assumption that’s pick 3 and 13 (Hawks F1) for Warner. In your eyes that's still not enough?

What about 3 and our F1 for Warner and 17?

Where do these flogs come from
We are the lions on the savannah. We own the turf. This is our club. We have the pride. We have pride in our pride. We have the muscle, the hunting technique to survive in this harsh environment. Our pride is strong. The wild dogs are coming to invade our territory. The Hyaenas have their eyes on taking us down. We have to be vigilant. The fake predators are all around and willing to pick off a few of our stars.

They will come because it is inevitable. Confrontation is inevitable. They want what they don't have but what we have got. We may lose some. But we are ready. We will exact a price.

They may escape with their life.

We will prevail. We are the lions on the savannah.

Think ultimately Chad signs on. He may just also be looking to do so during the season after he gets a feel for the future in the West.
If things don't look that bright then he would be foolish to leave IMO, unless the pressure is really on.

You’ll get valid arguments either way - but my personal view:

IF he’s set on leaving (be it now or in 2 years time), I’d view 3 & 13 as a fair trade.

Particularly with our history of getting reamed at the trade table.

For a 2024 AA midfielder/forward, 10th in the Brownlow (23 votes), 35 goals, two grand finals, beginning of his peak period? For two 18 year olds who will take at least 3 years if not more to reach a similar standard.
In no real universe is that a genuinely fair trade. Only in the AFL.

3 and 13 would be probably the biggest haul ever for a player aside from Judd. At least in this century.

He’s a FA in two years after next so with your list being so strong it might be tough to match a band 1 offer at that time.

No doubt Swans will ask for our 2xF1, we’re also great at getting reamed at the trade table so that will balance out nicely. We have a great trade relationship so I think any trade will work for both clubs.

Doesn't make it anywhere near even.
I acknowledge that if it happens it would be far and away the best we would get. In reality it would be pennies on the dollar. I really hope he resigns, almost regardless what we have to pay. If he goes the cost to get back to where we were is well into the millions. I'd be certain that the club is well aware of that but is limited by the cap and what they need to pay others.

I believe it is fair …. IF he’s going to leave in 2 years regardless.

And that is a distinct possibility.

Yes we would rather keep Warner, but a top 5 pick and top 15 pick is a good offer for pretty much any player in the league.

Never go full Dodoro.
