Thought Merrett was fine, 7 clearances and 400m gained plus equal leading tackler.

Parish & Shiel were poor though. Setterfield definitely has a spot there to make his own.

If I recall, both Steele and Crouch had more tackles each than any individual in our team, and Saints had more of the ball. Therein lies the continuing indictment on our side.

Agree, I reckon we envisioned him filling out like an explosive, powerful small mid like Ablett or Neale. Still think he’s a AA back pocket - half back.

Hindsight = Clug was the pick. Taranto a good pick (and my preference) but Clug fulfilled the promise.
And Setterfield should have been our target in 2018 over Shiel. Or both.

Feels like Sheil is the AFLs Russell Westbrook. Good player in his prime but small and inaccurate which isn’t a good mix in a good team. Can still put up numbers when given the ideal situation

id say more he was a cherry that was bought before we had a cake.

std for us - focus on the shiny recruit, ignore the less sexy, but more pressing need option.

I think we are a bit like last chance saloon for Will. He has an opportunity here which wasn’t at his previous 2 clubs. First choice inside mid. Didn’t start well but he was combining well I noticed with parish and the other mids a few times had a good symmetry going with them. We’ve been missing that like a sore thumb since Jobe. He was nowhere like peak Jobe but he reminded me of early Jobe where he did his primary role before Jobe added other strings to his bow.
