I want premierships, how do AA, brownlows help us and the team???

Freo has not won a premiership, nor Carlton in recent years, and Bulldogs was carried in 2016 by the umpires arguably

I would argue Fyfe and Bont are in a different mould. Bont's skill and poise is sublime while Fyfe is known for his competitive marking

Cripps is a little closer but Smillie and Cripps move differently they are not the same, different make ups to. Cripps appears lighter on the ground and slimmer. We do not want to make Smillie into something he is not especially if he can be better in his own way closer to his own true set of attributes

There is almost no comparison to Fyfe and Smillie I would think, more contrast, the only similarity might be 3-5 cm of height differential
Thank God some can see and read the bigger football picture...
The Club is in the business of winning Premierships...player positioning is of secondary importance!

I think you might be guilty of the bold not me. I want him in his natural position, you want to experiment judging on your own preconceptions of his 'true attributes', which obviously differ to all the coaches and recruiting staff who have been involved with him.

Plenty of footballers have both a premiership and a Brownlow, they are not mutually exclusive. Dusty and Neale the latest two.

Watching Smillie's vids he looks a very nice kick, easily better than Cripps and Fyfe and maybe closer to the Bont. He has great agility and quick feet. He was no.1 draftee half way through the year so he has plenty of traits that could see him elite. But we will never know until he plays. Who cares who he resembles or not, he could be a gun mid, of which we have none. If not he could be a half back or could even evolve into a third tall, who knows.

I think we are going round in circles.

Cal’s intel on Smillie came after the draft. Some clubs at least give him their full rankings list.
ohhh so the clubs said that they were surprised the players they picked were still on the board and that they actually ranked the players they picked much higher than they selected them?

classic

Apparently he celebrated Christmas at Punt Road so he could train between presents and meals. Most people have an afternoon nap, he did an afternoon weights session.
patty contin vibes

The only clubs that would have done that would be those whose head recruiters have bigger egos than brains.

Absolute madness to openly share your intel like that when clubs could use it to piece together their preferences in future years.

Nope. Melbourne and Saints both on record as having other interests

Saints would have taken Lindsay if Tauru gone and Dee’s Berry or more likely Bo Allen
dont upset the masses !!! this kid is now a messiah

what is his natural position???

there is no reason to suggest midfield is his natural position

Neale got carried by Ashcroft

Why did Smillie play CHB in his youth??? Thumbed his noses at his coaches??

We are not talking about Caleb Daniel playing ruck here!

Clubs are lot more open than you realise for 6mths of the year. Its a small industry

Sensitive little petals some of them. If he got drafted to another club they’d all be saying he is an overrated dud with no natural position at AFL level
Reckon if we did a poll on sensitivity of posters you would be close to first or second. Why else the need to block people if you can't handle opinions which aren't in agreement with yours?

Have a shandy and a lie down.

Yep sure.
You realise that from Twomeys article, EVERY SINGLE CLUB got the player they wanted at their pick in the first round.

It’s almost as if the draft played out perfectly for all clubs with picks in that first round.

You couldn’t have scripted that better.

Those that gave those tidbits knew what they were doing. Twomey ate it all up. And many of his admirers did so too.

His natural position is where he is being played, midfield. His range all season playing there was pick 1-6, so fair chance he was being played in his best position.

Who carried Neale for his first Brownlow or his 4 x AA or a bunch of other accolades.

He might have played his early junior years as a back because he was tall, but his last 3 years he has played midfield including making the AA side in the under 16's. So his coaches realised his potential as a mid wouldn't you say.

Not completely true. Clubs sort of got who they wanted based on which players were in their pick range. We wanted Lindsay at 12 but missed him by 1 pick.

Did we? Or was he ‘just in the frame’, along with Allan? Again, the way you read that we would have picked Lindsay if he was available depends on how hard you fanboi Twomeys ambiguous language.

Clubs like most businesses have 2 sets of books

which did they give Cal

Neale did not win a premiership when Brownlow and AAA, he was not a point of difference. Ashcroft just proves Norm Smiths are levels above Brownlows and AA

I would say, his coaches are experimenting as much as anyone else, they do not have the talls RFC has that is for sure

is natural position easily could be elsewhere given his versatility and potential and he is just starting, your narrative is clutching at straws trying to find a home

No one is saying Smillie is banned from the midfield, but why must he play with a ball and chain in the midfield?

I reckon a lot of posters on bigfooty are closest screws with their love for restrictions and must be disciples of Dan Andrews

Where have you got this idea that people prefer Brownlow's over Premierships?

Been going on about it non stop, it’s like a glitch in your system
