Valid it’s not a good look, hopefully everyone doesn’t attack the person and become personal. He will be spoken to no doubt as long as he learns from it that’s what matters.

Interim Richmond coach Andrew McQualter addressed the reaction after the game, saying the frustration of being subbed out of a game was understandable.

“The reality is - I’ve been subbed off. It’s not a nice feeling,” McQualter said.

“I understand. Young kid... he’s trying to make his way.

“I understand if he was disappointed. He’ll be OK.”

When asked if the incident would need to be addressed with Rioli Jr, McQualter said he would wait to take a closer look at what transpired.

“I’m not exactly sure how it played out at that time,” he said.

“Whatever happened, we’ll deal with it when we need to.”

In other words, northing to see here imo.
Na, in other words Mini doesn’t want to blast and upset anyone therefore hurting his chances at getting the full time gig

Caught between a rock and hard place

Maurice was visibly upset. It was probably a good decision not to take the call as he might have said some bad things. It had no effect on the match.
If he apologises in front of the group, I'm sure they will all forgive him and get around him.
He's only 20 and we don't want to lose him to another club imo.

I low key didn't mind it. Not ideal but it shows he cares. Players who underperform and show no care are a bigger worry.

FWIW I feel sorry for him but he hasn't shown enough thus far. I would imagine Daniel Rioli would be wrapping his arms around him right now.

I agree.. and I agree Mini handled it well in the press but it didn’t mean “nothing to see here”

How your behaviour "looks" after you have been subbed out of the game has very little importance. All that matters is how you perform your role and that you are not disruptive to what the team is trying to achieve.
If you say so.

Would have thought it more about how his behaviour 'is', and how his performance 'wasnt'.

Terrible.

Any coach with half a brain knows to always protect your players in a press conference, the fact that you don't know that says a lot more about you.

Mini is still trying to get the job and you think he's going to pot his own players?

Let's make a bet, if Jnr is picked next week, I'll delete my account - if he's dropped, you delete yours?
He'll get dropped, but it won't be for that. It'll be because Mansell is available and probably a better option.

Likewise, Banks will be dropped to sub if Shorty is available. Nothing sinister, just the way it is when there are better options.

He probably only gets one chance to play in WA each year where his family goes to . He obviously felt humiliated and unfairly treated.

He’s not the only who has gone backwards this season

Need to look into the player development side of things

Look at the pics of mrj and how he returned to pre season. Bloke was unfit and didn’t work hard enough and it’s showing in his game this year.

His one trick is run and tackle.

Selfless hey. My God. He needs to own his performances and tantrums. Do not want any of that s**t near the playing group let alone rewarded, especially because you feel some supporters are apparently to blame and are 'bottom feeders' for literally observing the ecidence amd are calling it out

Insane logic.

Are you out of your mind?

Watch the bloke play, he provides excellent pressure with his fast closing speed and it often helps us turn over the ball. Those turnovers are more valuable than an average possession...

The guy is human like everyone else. He experiences emotions. He was annoyed and angry in this instance, we could all see that. To sit there and not want to engage with others after you have been subbed out is not a tantrum. If this was part of a pattern of behaviour, then maybe it is noteworthy. It is the first time we have seen anything like this from Maurice, and we as outsiders have no idea whatsoever what caused him to be so annoyed. To presume as some have it is due to some sense of entitlement because his name is Rioli is a hell of a stretch.

It seems to me some posters are counting players kicks, marks, handballs, goals and obvious clangers and judging players solely on that. We had our former coach Hardwick explaining over and over again the match committee don't judge things based on those things. The players are judged based on their execution of certain roles. People suggesting as they have he is getting selected as often as he is because his name is Rioli are:

1. guessing
2. being extremely disrespectful to Maurice who is as far from an entitled footballer as you could ever wish to see, and
3. unbelievably, being extremely disrespectful to the selectors who pick the team.

What is being suggested is tantamount to suggesting Maurice's selection is the result of prejudice in his favour at the cost of the team. Do you think that makes any sense whatsoever? ie that the selectors would knowingly select an inferior team to include him in it due to his name being Rioli?

People are bottom feeding on this. The same people who claim Maurice can't play football are now citing his reaction to being subbed as if it is somehow evidence that he can't play football. That is a ludicrous proposition if you think about it rationally. If the club feels the need to drop him over his form then I am fully supportive. If they don't then I also support that. If he has been displaying counter-productive behaviour at the club and his emotional reaction to being subbed is another example of this then sure, deal with it, starting by investigating what the problem is. If this is not part of any pattern then it is a total non issue. I played lots of local level footy and cricket, but if I was dropped every time I was angry at coaches, leaders, decision makers, team-mates then I wouldn't have played much. Especially when I was young and trying to prove myself...

Watch the presser - not sure Mini is saying nothing to see here, but certainly “I’m not going to make any big statements before I’ve understood what happened and addressed it with him personally”

Well he has to do something but he's not going to recommend he get delisted.
The worse than can happen is that he misses next weeks match.

mcqualter handled it like a pro, the complete opposite to a couple of boofheads on here.

To be honest our forwardline structurally is an absolute mess at the moment without Lynch and I think poor MRJ is just a victim of the chaos. Up forward we've got resting mids, wings, rucks and geriatric Riewaldt all just trying to put something together to kick a winning score. MRJ will be alright.

Yeh the wave off of the phone was a bad look. You don't wave off the coaches box on game day, period.

I dont really care all that much that he did it once, I care that he learns from it. I'm sure it won't happen again, he gets dropped because of lack of impact not that behaviour, go and work on some things, learn from this situation how it's not a good look and the importance of taking feedback and encouragement from your coaching group and move on for the better.

going by that ginty on bench he is way better in his mind than he actually is

take the call and go yeah i sucked dont blame ya mini, and get to work

looked like a spoilt kent

hope he turns it around but dthwmi
Yeah drop him for that tantrum alone as it’s not our culture to have sooks on our list.

AP as if the coach is not going to back his player up Publicly. Stating the facts to a blood thirsty media would be detrimental to MRJ.
This will all be handled behind closed doors as that’s how things are done professionally. I would be upset if nothing was said quietly to him behind closed doors as thats then a bad precedence being set within the four walls.

The not the best way to get into the good books of who could be your coach next year.

Very disappointing season from him compared to last year promising year.
Never happened according to some.:$

C'mon TI - provided us with the most memorable moment of the match after Shai's speccy.:thumbsu:
