"First thing I thought was I've gotta pack my bags and get to work"

Dattoli might win multiple Best and Fairest awards at the club, but it's never going to beat the news we have someone named 'Zippy Fish' playing for the Swans as far as I'm concerned. (This incredible news I saw first on the link you provided).

The timing so early in his tenure at the Swans (literally in the first two weeks) suggests it may have aggravated something that was latent. However I'm talking out of my arse so don't pay me too much mind.

I'm also talking out of the same area but I hope it wasn't related to a weights session.

I think Arnold and Buller had back injuries early last season. Hopefully they will be cautious with Dattoli.

Last season Buller came back early and he seemed to be struggling physically in the reserves matches before they ruled him out for the season.

Here we go. Just about every new swans recruit suffers a stress fracture in their first year. Swans say 4 months so that'll be him done for the next 12.
Completely agree. The Swans injury updates are invariably wrong on the time they claim a player is going to be missing. I never understand why. Does it really throw an opposition team off their guard when they think player x might be playing next week and then misses? I highly doubt it - just tell the fans the truth!

Question - when the official Swans Injury Update (brought to us this year by Castlereagh Imaging I see) says "is likely to miss a minimum of four months of football" does that mean four months from now or four months from when we start on 7 March??

If it's the latter, then that puts his return at Round 17 in which case - unless we're not making Finals - I agree that we won't be seeing Jesse in the Seniors next year.

Hate to say this, the words Matthew and Ling spring to mind.

Merry Christmas!

Crap timing for an injury, but a stress reaction in the back isn't bad if caught early.

Lots of rest but will be able to respond well, can also use this time to build his upper body, core and do alternative conditioning.

Shouldn't affect his long term future at the Swans

I think it's 4 months from now based on what was reported.

"Dattoli will not run for six weeks while he recovers and will undergo rehabilitation immediately."

“He will have a break over Christmas before commencing off legs strength and conditioning work in the new year.”

Although it does say he will miss a "minimum of 4 months" so that could mean the season!

So positive , love it
Dont take it so personally

4 months off means he doesn’t get a preseason and will start underdone, best case scenario is that he’ll be playing my middle of the season and he’ll be behind the 8 ball the whole time

Knowing our medical history with draftees he’ll be lucky to play a handful of games in 2025

Its unfortunate. But probably not the worst timing.

Got to settle in and train for a few weeks with his new teammates. And then there is still two and half months before the season starts.
The worst thing is that a lot of his training will be individual so the shared experiences will be a bit limited. It will take some effort to ameliorate that.
