Most contested marks, most average goals per game, Absolute joke he didn't get picked but are we really surprised? Riewoldt 2012 Coleman missed out.

The AA team has always been a bit of a joke & isn't based off metrics and has a lot of selection bias.

How can a decision so staggering, be so unsurprising ?
same reason it wasnt surprising that maddinson got a baggy green for NSW big bash form, but cant get near it while being the best run scorer for 2 years while playing for the vics.

we know the bias is there

This is underplaying it somewhat.

Tom Lynch has in 2022 the highest average contested marks per game of any AFL player in the last 11 seasons. Only one of the tall forwards selected ahead of him, Curnow, had more than 50% of the contested marks of Lynch on a contested marks per minute played basis. And he took contested marks at about 54% of the rate of Lynch.

It is a seriously embarrassing omission by the AA selectors but to be expected I guess.

Tom Lynch - instrumental in 2 flags.

Charlie Curnow - instrumental in Carlton missing finals.

I knew it would happen because their was hardly any talk of Lynch being the team despite beating & dominating some high class defenders throughout the year.

It's no coincidence that since the return of the big fella to the team against Brisbane, we've been playing way better.

He's a contested marking machine and gives us a genuine contest down the line. Also means that Jack doesn't get triple teamed, brings the smalls into the game and gives the mids confidence that they can hoof it long to Lunch.

He reminds me of the stuff Matthew Richardson used to do.

The AFL have a history of doing this. Richo kicked 91.49 in 1996 yet Mitchell White (37.15) (played for Geelong) was named in the 1996 All Australian forward six ahead of him.

White was playing for Eagles at the time, but great spot. Just ludicrous selection when you look at their respective figures.

This one?

I hate to say it, but if Lynch had stayed at Gold Coast and played like this with them he’d be selected AA every time.

While Lynch plays for Richmond he will never be selected for AA, it’s the AFL’s way of punishing him for leaving one of their golden children to play in front of big crowds and win flags.

It’s just the way it’s going to be for the rest of his career.

Agree. Sadly they never get to play!
Haha maybe they should? An exhibition match next year in the pre-season…All-Australian A v All-Australian B and we’ll really see who should have been in the A team all along. :D

2nd most contested mark ever

And gets scragged not stop

LOL, this gets more and more embarrassing.

In 2022:

Lynch 60 goals from 1204 match minutes. A goal per 20 minutes on field roughly.

Curnow 64 goals from 1617 match minutes. A goal per 25 minutes on field.

Hawkins 59 goals from 1681 match minutes. A goal per 28 minutes on field.

Cameron 59 goals from 1547 match minutes. A goal per 26 minutes on field.

🤣🤣🤣 Guess which one those mongooses DIDN'T select in the AA team? Lynch kicks 79 goals if he plays the average minutes of the other 3 and they get picked ahead of him for kicking roughly 3/4’s of that many. He goes ahead on every major stat including score involvements* on a per minute played basis. Absolutely perplexing.

* Edit: this part is incorrect. Lynch would move ahead of Curnow, ad similar to Cameron for Score involvements but still about 1 per game behind Hawkins. However, Lynch zooms ahead for scoreboard impact overall on a per minute played basis.
