I don’t know enough about cricket balls to answer that but devils advocate. Is there THAT much difference in the seam bowling/position abilities of the respective bowlers that would account for such a stark difference in movement? I honestly cannot believe the difference can be that much.
Based on the first innings, there was bugger-all discrepancy in terms of the two teams and their ability to move it off the pitch. At the tail end of our batting innings, movement seemed to lower and made it a bit easier for Starc/Hazlewood, but that ball was 40+ overs old and the seam had definitely softened throughout the innings, whereas we've got a brand-new ball just ~1hr later and there's two-fifths-of-****-all seam... anyway, maybe it is a skill issue...

I refuse to believe they’ve given up. That would be incredibly soft. Similar to afl fans copium about their team “tanking for the draft”. I think they’re trying their best but they’re just not good

The batting lineup has been not good for 5 years yet selectors wouldn’t try things perfect example last summer against minnows

Look you’re a Richmond fan so you’re used to winning and being good but as a st Kilda fan I’m used to acknowledging sometimes the players just aren’t up to it.

I, and a few others, said at the end of last summer that this side needed to be gradually refreshed, so not retiring later on all at once, as we have way too many well into their 30s. I was worried about this series for that reason. We were barely holding on last summer. For some, this was one year too many.

**** forgot about that. Any chance he’s good for the rest of the seriesv

Haven’t caught the news but generally normal hammy is 21 days give and take so that would be Boxing Day (at best)

He won’t play Boland might

It's also the conditions.....all year the WACA..which is the same soil used at Optus has been juiced up in the first innings.....on multiple occasions WA has always bowled first because of the wicket ....then when the sun comes out it flattens out....as I said early today before play ...days 2 and 3 become good for batting..

the only positive I can see...is that with the earlier rain during the week...the pitch will hold up and it will not break up as ever bloody commentator on TV thinks we are playing on the bloody WACA from the 90s when there where HUGE cracks

So we are going to chase but the wicket fingers crossed shouldn't be that unplayable and there is a chance we can chase down a score 250 plus
