Good decision umpire, don't let the strength of the appeal influence your decision. :)

I thought it would be umpire's call on the DRS though, not having the ball missing.

Keep an eye on that opening partnership for NSW at the moment if we are looking for a test opener. No sure I would play Maddinson but Konstas perhaps a chance if he gets runs here and I think he has the PM 11 game before the 2nd test as well.

Possibly play Henry Hunt over him but agree. I just worry putting so many rookies against this attack and no that's not an invitation for picking you know who!

Think Ussie make quite a few 30s and 40s last year then went out. Had a 75 and 90 as well. Wasn't as good as other years though. Certainly looking every inch of near 38 now. Selectors are paying big time for not having the courage to make hard calls.
and exactly who was available last year to replace Usman? Unless you mean not making hard call to prevent Warner getting his "farewell tour" - which I agree was dumb. But that is not Usmans fault and he was still batting well (relative to Warner anyway).

RE: the Siraj non-appeal. Think Mitch Marsh did similar, maybe the Sundar dismissal, in India's first innings. Didn't turn to the ump. Ump waited. When Marsh eventually turned around and appeal, ump gave it out. Correct way to handle that behaviour by ump (think it was Kettleborough).

I was talking the whole side generally, it was aging and fading and nothing was done to get the next ones in.

Ussie was reasonably decent last summer.

First class matches played so far this Australian season:

McSweeney 4 (2 for Aus-A)
Khawaja 3
Labuschagne 1
Smith 1
Head 1
Marsh 2
Carey 2
Starc 1
Cummins 0
Lyon 2
Hazlewood 1

And yet, there have been 4 rounds of the Sheffield Shield played. The 5th round is playing concurrrently with this test, and 6th round will run concurrently with the second test. 7th round? February.

Beyond first class matches, our preparation was a series of t20 & ODIs v Scotland and England in September, and more of the same v Pakistan in November - that most of our test side sat out of. No test cricket over our winter.

Meanwhile, India's prep was a 3 test series v NZ.

Are we surprised at what is happening?

reality check when its written down.

Theres a shocking level of arrogance in that.

If the curator deserves any criticism, it's not for the pitch but for the state of the outfield.

It's too lush and the batsmen aren't always getting value for their shots in this match.
