O'Roarke looks quite raw. Good bounce, pace, and where he brings his arm through over his head creates a difficult angle, but he struggles a little with consistent line and has bowled about a foot to a foot and a half too short.

The pitch conditions have saved him a bit in that neither player has sought to take him on, but he'd want to sharpen up a bit.

Did he do the t20's as well? Whoever did that s**t me to tears, couldn't even pronounce players names. Brendan Julian was somehow the expert commentator in that booth.

Just when it couldn't get worse Julian is the expert

Something to work with but he's so raw, thought they would have kept Wagner in, I know he retired but that was only as he wasn't picked really

The SA series was played in February & finished less than 2 weeks ago

2 weeks is plenty of time for the wether to change. Pitch has been fine, openers can stop getting roads from ball 1

Smith plays that ridiculous shot way too often - one of the things that his tennis game has definitely been a poor influence on

Slinger's do that to you.

The ball is hiding behind their body before that arm whips round. You don't see it til the last moment, and because it's a little round arm it skids rather than kicks; as a consequence, a bouncer from a slinger is both very hard to see from the hand and on you faster than you think.

Wasn't a good shot, but his pull/hook isn't his best under good circumstances. As long as he's still out there, no worries.

Needs to adopt the Steve Waugh attitude of just not playing short balls.
Smith is a champ but even he doesn't have the mammoth will and determination of Tugga who just would not hook for a decade.

Guessing with no wickets and bugger all runs this pitch is a slow. One that is not coming on to the bat making scoring tough.
Not really, decent carry, first hour of a test on a green top with good bowling and openers trying to get in.

While I don't disagree, he's putting pressure on Smith with his inability to rotate the strike.

I can deal with a strike rate of 25. He's barely scoring off a ball in ten.
This is the thing with the current top 4...They all can get bogged down & score very slowly.

What’s this obsession with strike rates in a test match? It’s first session too. Would you prefer being 4/50 Bazball style?
