It doesn't look good in Galle with the ground totally covered with tyres on them, what is the drainage like there?
Sun is shining now so hoping to see them in an hour or less, but this being the tropics even locals concede no one really knows. Never rains in Jan apparently
Shithouse, but that is why they have tarps that cover the entire ground. So dont think that will be an issue. Tyres are there just to weigh the covers down
It really is quite weird. The sky is actually pretty clear. The ground has quite a large downslope to the boundaries and the locals are saying it drains well. I honestly doubt there was more than 5mm of rain then. I’m from Townsville, so I know a bit about tropical rain.
It’s gotta stop obviously but at the moment it doesn’t even qualify as drizzle. Stop press, has stopped now.
It’ll take them a while to actually get the covers off, the entire ground is covered, but that’s a bit of a plus in that they’ve probably protected it well.

Literally just spoke to the fourth umpire, lovely guy! From SL and he was saying the fact it is sunny while raining makes it insanely hard to predict. Good chat about how amazing the local ground staff are and assures me we will have cricket later, and outfield will remain dry under those covers

I haven't been to Sri Lanka but I've been to Thailand and the weather seems similar, sunny one minute then it's raining the next.
It would be a tough gig being a groundsmen there trying to predict the weather.

It’s dry and there’s the cloud in the photo to the NE, wind is westerly and the rain came in against the wind from pretty much direct N. Umpires have just been out there but now just spitting rain from the South. Honestly it’s nothing but the stuff in the NE looks nasty if it gets here against the wind.

They cover the field as well so they get back out. The issue is beyond the rope gets wet which means the ball can get wet.
When I go to cricket .com it takes a while to sort through the endless women's cricket stuff to find men's cricket Who feels the same? To be honest, couldn't give a rats bot bot about the women's cricket. The men's grade cricket is of way higher standard and more news worthy. My 87 year old mum agrees and so does my other mum
