No doubt he is playing injured, and assume he has been instructed to just make a contest and bring the ball to ground. Unfortunately the obvious problem is that he’s not great at a physical contest and we have no effective crumbers (honourable mention to Curtis’ efforts notwithstanding).

So what do we do? CCJ in for Larkey does seem the only answer. At the very least he’ll come in with expectations a lot lower than when he started with us, and given the same ‘just make a contest’ orders he with Chim might at least solve half our current basic problem around half of the time. Who crumbs then? Phoenix is not ready, and we’d be risking playing a forward line with a combined 60 odd games of experience. So for me it’s WillPhil roving to their feet if Simpkin is back.

Yes, not ideal - but lets face it… nothing about this situation is.

Players you can make a typo on and it suits them:

Kayne Turnover
Nick Lurkey
Hack Ze-ball
Daniel How?
….
When I read stuff sometimes it "sopunds" a certain way in my head. "Chim" sounds its being spoken by Erkle. "Chom" by whoever played Conan.

Don't think Kayne get's it enough to turn it over tho.

Larkey caught behind.

Larkey isn't a shitmen like McKay, Brown and CCJ.

He cost 2 dollar at the reject shop. Yeah he can be frustrating but will be ok in our finals season of 2025

He’s never going to be the contested KP forward. Need one more tall forward that can take big grabs and split packs. Then let Larkey use his smarts to find space and slip his opponent.
Can we just cut all the pretence. He is a tall flanker in the Brown and (much less athletically) Buddy mould. We need another contested-marking KPF. Someone who could develop into a Lynch-type would be ideal (I realise Lynch is an excellent footy player). Larkey would completely get off the chain and kick bags much more often if we had another KKP (190-200cm) who could compete in the air and work up the ground to find space. This ability to make space and synergise was one of the reasons our 2014-2016 forward line was so effective. We had big guys (Black, Hansen, Wood, Petrie, Waite, Brown, Daw) who were mobile, would repeat lead, block space and work up the ground in order for one or two of them to kick multiple goals each game.

The ability to take a contested grab better than 50% of the average is invaluable at ensuring goals are against the momentum or simply make sure that the ball can be controlled across HF for better entries.

F:Curtis ????(H.Himmelberg) Larkey
HF:Stephenson Comben ????? (Watson?)(Sheezel)

R: Zurhaar

Why doesn’t he get frees that the 99.9% other players would get? That Grundy free was soft and Larkey gets his jumper pulled constantly and nothing.

Larkey clearly injured out there too.

We have no choice but to play him. Our addiction to drafting inside mids and half-back flankers has forced our hand.

Needs some mongrel about him. No use getting edged under the ball every contest and out marked. Take out a body, give away a free kick - just have some sort of presence
