2008 phantom draft

Highly unlikely bris will pick a defender with 7 as we desperately need talented mids.

If Hartlett or Ziebell are avl we'll snap em up. If not lock in Blease.

Why would North take Suban?? Honestly

I've seen a few drafts that have us taking Suban, we dont need a half back flanker.. we need genuine midfielders. Blease, Sidebottom etc

7) Lions: Nick Suban
With the likes of Brisbane’s midfield (Dalziell, Power, Mcdonald, Johnstone, Notting, Selwood, Adcock and Rischitelli), forward line (Brown, Clarke, Bradshaw and Hooper) and their ruck (Clarke, Luenburger, Tippett and Charman) the Lions only have to focus on one other department, being their backline. With young Merrett coming through, and not much else, they need to get a young defender. Suban who has a wonderful kick, can easily get you out of trouble, not real good speed but loves to dodge tackles, seems the best available.
Your knowledge of our list is sadly lacking.

Our defensive unit is actually one of our strengths - Merrett, Patfull, Macdonald, Drummond, and Roe. With Tyler, Henderson, Clouston, and Collier likely to be groomed to play down back.

Our midfield and ruck department are easily our biggest weaknesses. There is no way in hell we will miss a chance to address those early in the draft this year.

I'm tipping we won't let Ziebell, Hartlett, Robinson, Blease and Sidebottom all waltz past us if they were available at our pick.

4) Vickery (Port)

6) Hurley (Carl)

Quick one on how draft Stands Now:

Dees:Natanui
Eagles:Rich
Dockers:Vickery
Port:Watts
Essendon:Hartlett
Carlton:Hurley
Brisbane:Yarran
Richmond:Ziebell
North:Suban
Adelaide:Johnstone
Sydney:McKernan
Collingwood:Sidebottom
St Kilda:Swift
Bulldogs:Tengrove
Hawks:Lisle
Cats: DoBoer
I can't see the Cats drafting DeBoer when nearly everyone has question marks on his kicking.

The Cats would pick a player like Hill or Robinson in a heartbeat if all the good KPP are gone when they get a pick.

Great get if either of these players are available at 16.

Robinson might even be a ready made replacement for Prismall.

Made an error or two in my last draft.

MELB: Jack Watts

WCE: Nicholas Naitunui

FREM: Daniel Rich

PORT: Tyrone Vickery

ESS: Michael Hurley

CARL: Hamish Hartlett

BRIS: Jack Ziebell

RICH: Jackson Trengrove

well done....

i've posted on here previously that i would like us to pick up lewis johnston with our pick 8...but just recently had a look at some clips of trengove...and i've sorta changed my mind...i now agree with you....would be very happy if we can get trengove...i believe he is good enough and athletic enough to play as a big forward that we still lack in our young forwardline...would complement hughes and riewoldt very well and be a very good CHF.....obviously we would need to look at the medical report come draft camp..but if he is cleared..i'm all for trengove....

here is a little taste though...

*snip*

What you think????

Fair effort. I liked yours, from a Brisbane perspective, I like Rockcliff and could well become a Lion in '08.

Pencil this one in?

Jamie Charman ring a bell? McDonald has retired. Plus Brisbane really rate young Tippett as well and he will be promoted to the senior list.

If we pick a ruckman with pick 7 there will be a riot. We have gone tall early in the last few drafts - it's now time to focus on the midfield.

Stubborn poster mate, a few got stuck into him on speculative first round choice and the fact he had the order wrong, in another thread.

Brisbane won't take a ruck with a first round, but it is a weakness and will be addressed second or third round, maybe a sliding Vickery (Top 25 seems about right) or maybe Roughead (3rd rounder?) could be a Lion next seasons.

I still think Brisbane need to have a look at another crumbing forward, Rockcliff maybe?

1-Melbourne - Jack Watts
2-WCE - Daniel Rich
3-Fremantle - Nicholas Natanui
4-Port - Tyrone Vickery
5-Essendon - Michael Hurley
6-Carlton - Jack Ziebell
7-Brisbane - Hamish Hartlett

There we go everyone that comments on this can you please rate me out of 10 thanks. And tell me what i could improve on the one i was not sure on was Same Blease going to Adelaide.:)

Here's my round 1. Some things a bit different. I haven't got Naitanui sliding because i'm a richmond supporter. I just think there are more complete players earlier and Port are the only ones who really need a ruckman. Any ruck West Coast or Freo take will be playing second fiddle for a while so maybe not worth a top 3 pick.

I am pretty sure that Mitch Robinson will find his way into the top 18 as well but for one reason or another haven't got him in. He may go to North who probably need a dependable midfielder over a flashy one.

Obviously after draft camp and trade week this could all change.

Round 1:
Pick 1: Melbourne: Jack Watts: totally devoid of a key forward
Pick 2: West Coast: Rich - Will try and build another gun midfield - Rich, Ebert, Masten, Kerr, Priddis
Pick 3: Fremantle: 3. Hartlett - will look for a young mid to complement Palmer. He can’t do it all. Will be tempted by Naitanui but they have Sandilands and wont want to spend pick 3 on a bench player.
Pick 4: Port Adelaide: Vickery - absolute gun. Port need a ruckman.
Pick 5: Essendon: Michael Hurley: Surely Essendon must take a key defender. No Mal Michael and Fletcher on his last legs. Hurley will be a gun.
Pick 6: Carlton: Johnstone: He is underage and is a marking machine. Has been compared to Pavlich. Carlton need another avenue to goal and will try and emulate the Hawks twin power forward set up.
Pick 7: Brisbane Lions: Ziebel - Will want to add a quality midfielder.
Pick 8: Richmond: Naitanui - Richmond wont overlook him if he is still there. They need a ruckman and will benefit from the publicity. The only reason I have him here is because in my eyes Vickery is more of a complete player and no other club really needs a number one ruckman.
Pick 9: Collingwood: Sidebottom: Collingwood will snap him up if he is still there as they need more midfield quality.
Pick 10: North Melbourne: Yarran: a ready replacement for Grant and will be able to step into Harvey’s shoes.
Pick 11: Sydney: McKernan: A player capable of playing as a key forward or a ruckman. Perfect for Sydney.
Pick 12: Adelaide: Rhys OKeefe: Bassets retirement leaves the Crows needing a half back of quality. Okeefe for me will be a gun and a Croweater to boot. Will suit Craig's style.
Pick 13: St.Kilda: Sam Blease: Must take a quality mid. Blease looks to have the goods.
Pick 14: Western Bulldogs: Ayce Cordy: The dogs will take Cordy. Somebody must nominate him so the dogs hands will be tied.
Pick 15: Hawthorn: Trengove: The Hawks need a quality key position back as this where they lack depth. If Trengove is fit they will take him otherwise Lisle. This could be one of the bargains of the draft as Trengove is a super talent.
Pick 16: Geelong: Thomas Swift: If the medical report is positive the Cats may be tempted to take him as he is a super talent. If Okeefe is still available however I think they will take him to replace Milburn.
PRIORITY PICKS:
Pick 17: Melbourne: Aaron Cornelius: Melbourne are extremely light on for key forwards and should take Cornelius to develop with Watts as a classy combination.
Pick 18: West Coast: Jordan Roughead: The Eagles will be looking for some ruck insurance if they haven’t taken Naitanui.

Hartlett is my tip to be this year's Leroy Jetta. At his height, and the style of player he is, I think he'll be lucky to be top ten, let alone top four.
