2008 - The Year of the Saint

Happy New Year, fellow sainters.

This is it. The year we redeem ourselves. The Saints to go all out in 2008 and make history with our second ever premiership cup.

Anybody else feel this way, or is it just me?

All the best to you as well my friend!

I know I have said this before but I am the most excited about Season 2008 that I have ever felt about an upcoming season. I really feel our game style is more suited to finals and I know with a bit of luck on the injury front we could really give it a shake!

Really looking forward to 08 think we just need a little luck , keep everyone on the paddock and things should look after themselves !!!!:thumbsu:

I think it can be done. It will be very difficult, but it's achievable. You would never thought Geelong (this time last year) would win a premiership cup, with their poor history in Grand finals and the fact interstate clubs were dominating.

I hope you're right ... but I'm a bit loath to make any bold predictions. If we play to our ability we can make top 4, and after that it's a a bit of a lottery.

But Geelong's fine 2007 shows me recovery from a poor year is possible if your list has enough quality. This year, as much as ever, seems to be a year of evenly matched sides, so even predicting the finalists is quite difficult, but I'm hopeful of a fine year from our boys in what will probably be Harvey's last year.

sure you jest St Dac, the youngster Harvey looks like he could play another 10 years, if we persevere he could end up playing 20 odd years for us. give him a chance he may even go on to win a brownlow or 2

One of the main points here is that we have not left our injury-stuff to luck as much this year as we have in the past (see this article in the Hun). That means our top class players actually have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for the first time in a long time. I also think the addition of coaching and administrative staff who recognise the immense value of decent ruckmen will make a huge difference. I can't predict that we'll win the whole thing - as St DAC says, it's a very even comp this year - but I'd be confident that we're in with a really hot chance, and probably the hottest chance since that 10-game streak during GT's reign.

I really wish I could share your optimism Kildonan but how can I? Sure, I'll admit, there is a good vibe down at the club, but in reallity, not much has changed. Our team is in decline and it will take a miraculous run with injuries to reverse this IMHO. If Gardener is over his problems and King can stay healthy this will go a long way to us making the top 8. Winning the flag though is another story.

I know when I mentioned that Carlton and Richmond could overtake us next year everyone freaked out, but it is possible. Brisbane are also on the way up and Freo will bounce back as well.

My predicted finish......10th - 12th. If Misson can work miracles.....8th.

No, not just you. I feel the same way, but then, I do every year.:D:D:thumbsu::thumbsu:

I think your the only st.kilda fan with a membership, who offers a prediction such as that. If St.kilda finish below Richmond and Carlton, it will mean St.kilda has missed the top eight again, and there will be serious pressure on Ross Lyon to keep his job.

I can honestly see Carlton and Richmond winning 8 games each this year. How many will St.kilda win?????????????

15 + wins in the home and away season.

This is going to be a great year for the Saints

... and no matter how high we go, or in later years if we decline somewhat, no matter how low we go...

one thing I hope we always strive to do is ...

always, ALWAYS, ALWAYS we must beat Carlton.

They are the scum of the competition.

If St.kilda win 15 games or more in the home and away season I promise I will strip naked and run around Moorabbin oval 10 times in broad daylight.

Another reason to move to Frankston rather sooner than later.

Oh no, I did it - I shouldn't have, but I couldn't stop myself...

I fed the troll.

Which footy team do you actually go for? Why can't St.kilda win 15 games, providing we have some luck with injuries?

Oh dear. Yes, i can see Carlton winning eight games, but not Richmond. It's astonishing how you think St.kilda will win as many games as the wooden spooner of 2007. Truly amazing.

Just curious, for all those buying Kangas memberships this year to help the club out (inc you, StK if I'm not mistaken...), would you buy a Carlton membership if they were about to go under? :p
