Lucas Cook at 41 would be such a steal!

If it as between Cook and Watson at 18 the recruiting staff would be having fits

I have a feeling we will go for a defender over a forward if they are of similar talent. I think with the high probability of Kruezer playing forward for a fair chunk of next year we won't have room for another tall forward. With Warnock's promising forward performances late in the year I suspect at times we may be using the Essendon module of Ryder and Hille rotating through the ruck and full forward. The thought of Warnock and Kruezer clunking marks inside 50 is mouth watering!

I'd rather take a forward like Mitchell in the second round to develop in the 2's and get a nice prospect like McCarthy (would be a dream selection) or Watson in the first round.

Size not all that matters at draft
Dion Prestia is a 175cm dynamo from TAC Cup club Calder Cannons who saw no problem in being the shortest player at the draft combine.

"The ball's on the ground most of the time," he said.

Prestia catches the eye as an inside midfielder who can use his strength to burst out of trouble.

He's also an outside midfielder who can carry the ball 10 or 20 metres and kick 60. He models himself on David Rodan.

"He's got the same frame," Prestia says. "He takes players on using his strong core and strong legs."

Josh Green is a 179cm midfielder who was captain of the Tasmanian team that won the division-two title at the under-18 national championships. He's fast and agile, and possessed of lightning reflexes and the ability to get the ball to his boot in a nanosecond.

Green says he gets around his lack of height by playing to his strengths - and by preparing. When being interviewed by AFL clubs at the draft combine, he was aggressive in dealing with the issue of his height. He asked every club what they thought of it.

"None of them said they had an issue," he said. "They said to just keep doing what I'm doing."

I think Prestia can be our version of Daniel Rich.

not overly tall - clearance player - booming kick ....

.... I hope he's around at #33 (provided we go with one of Watson/Darling/Karnezis at #18).

Then again, can we carry both he and Ellard in the one side?

I wouldn't be straying away from any particular player in the draft because we have Ellard.

Most of us on here love him for what he is - a player that will try his guts out in each and every game and never die wondering.

But he's not THAT good a footballer. We need tough nuggety players, and more than one in Ellard. Depth is always something to aspire to, in any position on the park.

excuse me but im a business executive.. during my down time i might look up bigfooty from time to time. and by the way i was praising judd for hindering your clubs progress. seems as though he has a say in who u guys recruit given ur insipid list. only adds to his wallet and longevity. get ur blinkers off! sing it with me we aaaaaaaare the champpppions of the woooooooooooorld come on baby sing it with me now weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee are the champions sing it loooooooooooooud.

Well, this is an interesting comment. I'm know you Colliwobble supporters are histerical about winning one flag.
You've now won one in a row. It seems you're now starting to string them together and you are developing a pretty significant patten.
Premierships in 1958 then waited 32 years then 1990 a Premiership then waited 20 years to 2010. During that time you were beaten in some trial run Grand Finals in:- 1952,1955,1956,1960,1964,1966,1970,1977,1979,1980,1981,2002 & 2003
Now with a patten like that I find it surprising you would expect to win one next year when you know you now have to wait another 10 years with a 5 losses in between.
Ho hum, you guys are soooooo easy!;)

Midfielders as a general rule do 90% of their work below the waist, rendering their height just about meaningless. David Wirrpanda was only 173cm, but he did the job on bigger players time and time again using his skill and power. West Coasts 2005 premiership team had 2 short people in Cousins & Kerr, both of whom are under 180cm tall. I'm not saying Ellard or Prestia or anyone else for that matter are in their class, i'm just saying that strength, endurance, skill are far more valuable midfield attributes over marking.

This Prestia seems to be a ball of energy and strength, so i wouldn't be averse to drafting him whatsoever. Has a real boot on him by the look of things too.

Only You tube Vids, but he looks to have a good pair of hands, If watson is gone at 18 id take Hallahan and look at Walker as a tall with a later pick.

I'd be very happy for the blues to pick up Josh Walker. Great mark, kick and a quality kid.
Skinny tall frame, but some time in the gym will see him fill out over time.

Sounds like he could replace Josh Donaldson. :(

The club seems to be doing its best to perform an ethnic cleansing of the ranga's from our club. Perhaps they were worried they'd steal out players souls?

Racist

'Dead-eye' Cook's extra kick
The 196cm key forward was one of only 11 attendees of the national and state combines who registered a score of 5/5 in the Nathan Buckley-designed kicking test.

"He just reads the ball so well in the air and he's a one grab player," AFL national talent manager Kevin Sheehan said earlier this year.

"As many supporters know, you like players to be able to convert when they've got the ball in their hands and he's a dead-eye shot at goal."

The other two players to record perfect scores in kicking at the state and national combines were Perth midfielder Reece Conca and Port Adelaide Magpies small forward Terry Milera.

Conca, who has been compared to Western Bulldogs star Ryan Griffen, also has a career-path outside footy mapped out. He is currently studying psychology and commerce at university.

The following compensation picks could be in play in this years draft:

Brisbane (end of first round, end of first round)
Geelong (after first rounder, end of first round)
Gold Coast (middle of first round, end of first round, after second rounder)
North Melbourne (end of first round)
Richmond (end of first round)
West Coast (after third rounder)

I'd say that GC won't use theirs this year, North and Richmond will probably conserve them (list in a position that a couple of choice kids in later years may push them into contention). Brisbane would not use both, Geelong will save the after first rounder, maybe use their end of firdt round. WCE have rookie upgrades this year.

So the most likely shift is 33 becomes 35. Not a tragedy

So we have 24 days left until the draft. There have been so many names mentioned that it is hard to keep up. Is there any player(s) who we can mostly agree on that we should/will take if they are available when our picks come around? I'd like to try and get a chance to read up on the guys we may get, but from what I have read in this thread, I would basically need to research everyone.

I think Zac could be a reasonable later pick, he also spent some time down back as well as forward in the champs and performed ok

I'm not sure what draft pick, but I've been told that Carlton have told Darcy Barden who plays at the Knights that we'll pick him up.

He has also had interest at Brisbane, the team he supports, but has had a few interviews at Carlton and gone in for a medical/physical test last week.

He's a quality kid that will work his butt off if given a chance. :thumbsu:

We surley wont use pick 18 on him soo it would have to be either 33 or 41 soo there is a possibilty we wont even get him
