2010 flag and spoon

Spoon will definitely come from one of North/Richmond/Melbourne.

This is a certainty IMO. Port are far better than wooden spoon material, even with their inconsistency issues.

As for the flag, one of Geel/Saints/Adel/Coll/Hawks/WB to take home the prize in 2010.

Premiers. A tough call
Geelong- Haven't really lost anything, great depth, the whole competition would have studied the way they play for the last couple of years, yet here they still remain. I only question the true hunger.
Bulldogs- Should be just as hungry and talented as ever.
Hawks- have the talent in the midfield and forwardline to challenge. I still question the backline and depth.
Saints- guns across all lines, they can't be this lucky with injuries again though?

Spoon: between Melb and Tigers for me.
Dees Lost mclean but another year of preseason for their young team, should see some improvement. Tigers have lost alot of experience, and I cant see them being any better than last year.

Flag - Saints. maybe Doggies
Geelong will fall back enough to fall out of the top 2 teams, Hawthorn could challenge, but its really hard to tell based on this year. Saint Kilda wont take a step back, and the Dogs should improve, though they will need hall to play well to win IMO.

Spoon - Melbourne or North.
Richmond will improve, and Port Adelaide are no where near being the 16th side. Fremantle should improve significantly aswell. I don't see North or Melbourne improving nearly as much as Richmond/Fremantle should, and they will fight it out for the spoon. I would favour melbourne though.

Flag: Hawthorn, I can see them getting their mojo back, a decent run with injuries will also help. I can really see a club to win it from outsie of last season's top 4.

Spoon: Richmond seems to be the obvious choice but Port are in danger of imploding. Financial situation is dire, identity crisis and various other issues will all contribute to a terrible year. They need to hit rock bottom before that start to rebuild with a new coach.

As for people picking Melbourne to finish last, it doesn't boter me, afterall we're all entitled to our own opinions. What amuses me though is alot of the people who have picked us to finish last have been the same who have vocally accused us of tanking all year.
If they were right and we did tank then obviously we won't do the same thing next year. We'll also be better due to the natural development of a young list and we'll have much better run with injuries because we won't send half the list to an early appointment with a surgeon.

It's funny seeing the same people bitch and moan that we had to tank all year to finish last and then in the same breath label us duds and stuck at the bottom for the next 5. :D

This :thumbsu:

Couldn't have said it better myself. The way a lot of those particular people have contradicted themselves so spectacularly when it comes to our club has been comical, to say the least...

You were alright up until this point in your post, but after that first word it went all to **** for you there... ;)

Honestly - Port are close to, if not the most under-resourced and indebted club in the AFL, as far as I can see! AFAIK, you've got the highest level of debt in the league, and by far the lowest crowd average.

As for the Demons, we're building what many acknowledge either already is, or will soon be, the strongest list of young players in the AFL, we're already close to being debt-free, and we're riding a wave of rapidly-increasing membership...
Yea, cool. But I think this topic is about who will win the flag and spoon next year.

Nobody claimed Melbourne were finals material, only that you were capable of pinching another game or two if you were fair dinkum about it.

Flag: Geelong for me, although it's still a very big toss-up between Geelong, St. Kilda and Footscray. I really believe it will be all three's last real crack at the flag next year, before sides such as Hawthorn, Adelaide and Collingwood take their mantle.
Spoon: Richmond. All the Tiges can do now is rebuild.

Flag: Dogs, final piece in place with Hall, Cooney to win the Brownlow again, after an uninterrupted pre season (same as 2008). Runner up Saints/Hawthorn. Final decider: Injuries.

Spoon: Richmond - commencing a rebuild, but I think it will finally pay off.

Flag St K ...under the lose one to win one scenario. That loss is going to oush them hard all season and they will be hungry as Stewie Dew at an all inclusive breakfast buffet.

Spoon - Tiges ....Cut a lot of players and have a new coach - work in progress but under the have to get worse before you get better scenario.

Quoted so I don't have to type it. It's rare I agree with Moo.

Flag: Carlton. I like to be optimistic :thumbsu:

Spoon: North/Sydney are hard to split for my money.

Why not Melbourne for spoon? Dean Bailey to get sacked midseason for being found out for the hack he is. SOS to take the reigns.

This thread'll be fun for us Demons to bump next year!

Vinnie, I respectfully submit that your prediction there is about as likely as the spontaneous morphing of my computer into an angry hamster... :D

Brett Ratten board ;)

With RatZero at the helm, and a squad as raw as ours was at the start of 2008, we'd have all started hammering nails into our eyes to escape the pain long before now!

Nobody who's actually been paying attention thinks that there's anything particularly wrong with DB's development of our squad over the last 2 seasons... and moreover, when you look at the difference in spirit and culture between the Melbourne Football Club, and the shocking mess of Carlton - it's like comparing the Taj Mahal with a draughty shed outside Orbost...

Flag - Hawthorn. Will bounce back. Too much talent not to and will have a fire in the belly.

Spoon - Melbourne. Just the shittest club in the league in every aspect. No ticker. Loser mentallity. Draft picks won't help in 2010. Mediocrity is what the Dees aspire to, but even can't reach that.
