2011 Brownlow Medal Discussion

Bruce McAvaney's lovefest with Swann at the end was a bit off-putting.

Someone needs to remind him - and the media in general who love nothing better than drooling over Collingwood players- that there are two teams in the Grand Final. The questions about Collingwood winning g/finals etc were awful.

If Geelong get 1/20th of the media attention of Collingwood this week it will be a miracle. Cringeworthy interview...but congrats Swan on being a worthy winner.

Feel sorry for Juddy...he is a tall poppy who will be unlikely to get a chance to get to the 3rd medal, but at least we have some "special" memories of him this year and last.

Well done Juddy and Murphy...come on Gibbsy...you're next! the 3 amigos in the midfield...

Absolutely. He cops it from opposition players still, but it shows people close to the game really rate what he does.

Good to see him, Scotland and Simpson get deserved BOGs and Kreuzer also for that one standout game.

I was pleased that Simmo was acknowledged for his Round 24 game. Despite the result, he was clearly the best player on the ground.

Hopefully a fully fit Kreuzer will produce games like he did against Sydney this year, on a regular basis.

Wow all the Collingwood supporters seem to care about right now is Juddy not winning it. Seriously they are still cut over the fact that Juddy took the medal off their "star" last year. Get over it for ****s sake. Well done to Swanny he's a great player no doubt but the fact he won and polled the most votes ever since 3-2-1 came in surprised me.

If I see any more "Dane Swan is such a great bloke/character" I'm gonna puke.

Anyone who beats the shit out of someone severely while they're on the ground pleading for them to stop, deserve no positive recognition to their character. Despite being a wirthy winner, he is scum, pure and simple.

Ever had a fight before? ever done something you regret whilst drunk?, i can't pull you up but i hope someone does.

Best to ignore the personal references because it will just come across wrong Thrawny.

What is amusing me is the Pies supporters who are saying that Swan has been the best the last two years or that he should have had back to back Brownlows. The irony here is dare I say it ... delicious.

Swan MVP, Brownlow favourite - Judd wins = rigged.
Judd MVP, Brownlow favourite - Swan wins = good call.

I do understand that what was said last year, can not be unsaid, but there is nothing magnanimous or sporting about the tantrums last year.

Judd according to bookies = unlucky this year
Kouta also unlucky not to win as favourite
Diesel missed in 93 as favourite but got it back in 94. It happens.

Hopefully the end of the Judd - 3 votes madness that permeates and derails every thread though.

Sure I have, but not to the point of severely beating the **** out of someone when they're on their knees. And you write this as if this were a normal thing to shrug off because... ?

And you were there?, you know Dane wasn't the only one involved, in fact police said he played a minor role in the incident, but carry on with your smear if it helps you sleep at night.

While personal comments are distasteful, this sort of sentiment has been very much in the public domain and on the public record. It can't be deleted based on defamatory remarks, but if it derails the thread, maybe.

There's probably a heap of derogatory comments about opposition players on every team board. Best to let them fade into the background.

It just proves what a crap award it really is, what pisses me off the most is the winner is basiclly crowned the best footballer in the land, Pendlebury was better than Swan, Goodes was probably equal pendles etc etc, the award has lost all credibility IMO.

Yeah no worries.

Good luck that Thrawn dude seems like a real hater

I have been in a couple of fights.

Never done anything I regret while drunk... never had a fight while drunk. Never beat the **** out of someone older and weaker than me for no reason while drunk.

Swan is a good footballer... wouldnt rate him as a human being though because of his actions in the cleaner incident.

Thought Swan's year was so, so. He actually had a better year last season, but it's pretty obvious the umps felt the political heat this time around, and overcompensated. He was getting votes for even average performances this season.

He's a pretty poor character though. I remember him going before the courts regarding his involvement in a thug-style gang bashing just a few years ago. Real low stuff. Not a good look for the Brownlow. Next they'll be praising the character of Beams. lol. Collingwood really is the gutter.

:)

Mate, don't go after our posters on our board. Thrawn is a former moderator, very respected site wide. He just happens to have his own moral code and like all of us, some things register more than others based on our own life experiences.

It's not as though he just made something up. His opinion is based in fact, but his response to it is greater than many others.

It's easy to judge mate, perception is reality for the media, Police have said he played a minor role but because he's an AFL footballer he wares the brunt, simple as that, people will often believe what the media tell them to believe.

There is nothing to judge.

It is on public record.

In 2003, Swan was charged following a brawl at Federation Square, in which a security guard was knocked unconscious. The bashing was so brutal that it left the victim with "permanent brain damage". He was charged with 13 offences, including assault, affray, and intentionally causing serious injury. Swan was convicted of affray, ordered to perform community service and to pay $100,000 to the victim. In an interview, Swan thought that he was going to be sacked, but the coach gave him one last opportunity.

Now is there anything else we can help you with here?

I don't mind you distributer usually your posts are pretty good but do you seriously expect us as Carlton supporters to respect Swan? Look at all the disrespect thrown towards Chris Judd especially by Collingwood supporters. Why on earth would we hold back on judging a man who was convicted, caused permanent brain damage to a man and paid $100,000 in damages to the victim, when our captain is constantly attacked for things far less severe than that.
