Heard Gears talking in the recent interview (http://www.rsn.net.au/audioplayer/1340842161.mp3) and he mentioned his brother "Kal" (Kallen).

Seems to be going OK up in Queensland:

http://www.broadbeachcats.com.au/newsDetail.php?ROUND-7-RISING-STAR-NOMINATION-63

He smashed the 3km time trial record at the NAB AFL Draft Camp in Canberra in 2009 with a time of 9min43sec.

And, according to officials wherever he’s played, he is a natural leader and an outstanding young man.

Little wonder there is a collective disbelief in football circles that Geary was overlooked in the NAB AFL National Draft not just in 2009 but also last year, when the Gold Coast Suns took the cream of the talent crop.

The 19-year-old midfielder has been named in the Cats’ top five players in five of their six games this season.

So impressive has he been that he’s won the Round 7 nomination for the NAB NEAFL Rising Star Award (Northern Conference).

Broadbeach Club Development Manager Jarrod Field could not be more glowing in his praise of the former Eaglehawk junior, who played last with with Sandringham in the VFL, finishing runner-up by a solitary vote in the club’s Reserves B&F and winning ‘Best Finals Player’.

“He’s a gun.”

Geary, who would have been hot property in the VFL, only headed to Queensland because his girlfriend Bridgette was heading to the Gold Coast to study at Bond University.

Geary, nicknamed ‘Gearz’ or ‘Gearbox’ and set to turn 20 on 30 May, is a newcomer to a fairly small group of interstate recruits nominated for the QAFL / NEAFL Rising Star Award.

He joins NT Thunder’s Jed Anderson and Ross Tangatalum, Aspley’s Michael Hutchinson, Mt.Gravatt’s Nathan Reid, the Brisbane Lions’ Richard Newell and Redland’s Trent Manzone as early contenders for the coveted award.

Whilst his game was a bit better last week, he wasn't overly prominent and there are a number of players returning from injury. Starting on the bench doesn't mean alot these days.

Looks like all 3 Saints emergencies are being held over for tomorrow

Jackson Ferguson has knee strapped today.

Port Melbourne forward pressure is immense! Zebs over using ball early. Port kick opening goal of day. 0.0.0 to 1.0.6

Dean Polo gets Zebs first goal. 1.0.6 to 1.0.6

Port get their 2nd. 1.0 to 2.1

Curren has job on Valenti today after stopping role on Couch last week

Galea kicks another for Port after Marigliani gives away a vital 50m penalty. 1.0.6 to 3.1.19

Worrying signs for Zebs early on. Dont seem to have their structure worked out & Port running all over them.

Galea kicks his 2nd for Port and they are now out to 19 point lead half way through opening term. 1.0.6 to 4.1.25

Marigliani looks like he may have injured himself in that marking contest

Farren Ray gets much needed goal for Zebs. 2.0.12 to 4.1.25

Pretty soft free kick there for 'in the back' to Galea there and he kicks his 3rd. 2.0.12 to 5.1.31

Good news Marigliani is fine!

Port kick their 6th goal of opening term. They are kicking with the breeze. 2.1.13 to 6.2.38

Port now have 7 goals this term! 2.1.13 to 7.4.46

Zebs lucky that Port have missed few relatively easy shots otherwise this game could almost be over. We have no forward structure, noone looks like they'll kick a goal.

Sandringham: 2.1.13
Port Melbourne: 7.4.46

Goals: Polo, Ray

Dunell 6 disposals & 3 marks, Ferguson 6 disposals & 2 marks, Ray 5 disposals & 2 marks, Peake 4, Polo 4, Ledger 6, Cockie 4

2nd QTR underway, Zebs need to make most of the breeze

Ledger just hacks it forward. Terrible kick and not first one. Needs to think sometimes

This is type game Daniel Archer needs to perform, but havent spotted him yet!

Great running by Jamie Cripps to get to terrific pass from Shenton. Cripps kicks it from boundry! 3.2.20 to 7.5.47

Sam Dunell been very good so far. Tom Ledger is getting ball but turning it over with most kicks. Ferguson also going alright

Simpkin holding his own against Galea. Apart from goals he kicked from softest free you'll ever see and 50m penatly against Rigs reckon Simpkin has beaten him.

Daniel Archer kicks another one for Zebs after having most of play this qtr. Its back to 21 points. 4.2.26 to 7.5.47

Minchington get Zebs 3rd this qtr! Its back to 15 points. 5.2.32 to 7.5.47

Jamie Cripps having great qtr, things happen when he gets the ball

Zebras are up and about at moment. Pressure has really lifted

Great tackle by Daniel Markworth not rewarded by umpires. Staggering decision

Daniel Markworth having great qtr and kicks another for Zebs! Thats 4 in row and its back to only 8 points 6.3.39 to 7.5.47

Beau Dowler as solid as rock as usual

Port missing few shots. 6.3.39 to 7.6.48

Port get their first for qtr nearing half time. 6.3.39 to 8.7.55

Great courage shown there by Ferguson backing into pack

My man Markworth has done some very nice things.

Smother in the middle that lead to the Minch goal, and that tackle on the Port player was quality, evened up that atrocious decision with a mark and goal a few mins later.

HALF TIME

Sandringham: 7.3.45
Port Melbourne: 8.8.56

Goals: Ray, Polo, Markworth, Cripps, Archer, Minchington, Coleman

Peake 13 disposals & 6 marks

Dowler 11 disposals & 4 marks
Dunell 10 disposals & 4 marks
Ferguson 10 disposals
Ledger 10 disposals
Cook 7 dispsosals
Cockie 7 disposals

3rd QTR about to get underway! Port kicking with breeze this term, Zebs need to work hard

Port get opening goal of 2nd half.

Coleman kicks his 3rd for day. 8.3.51 to 9.9.63

Great mark and goal by Sam Dunnell. The margin is back to 12 points.

Kick coast to coast stuff for Sandy sees Cooke kick one. Great work by Dunnell again

It really is goal for goal atm. Port get another one. Hopefully Zebs can get a few more.

Winmar doesnt even make distance! 28mins gone 65-89

Costly miss and shocking effort by Archer in that Winmar shot on goal as goes up other end and Port kick goal. 10.5.65 to 14.11.95

Daniel Archer having an absolute stinker

3 QTR TIME

Sandringham: 10.5.65
Port Melbourne: 14.12.96

Massive final term coming up here. 30 points difference but Zebs coming home with breeze

Dean Polo kicks goal within 17secs! What a start! 11.5.71 to 14.12.96

More great work by Jamie Cripps who passes to Farren Ray unmarked in square! Its back to 18 points! 12.6.78 to 14.12.96

Awesome work by Daniel Markworth who finds Jamie Cripps directly in front, but he misses. 12.8.80 to 14.13.97

Zebs have had all the play but havent been able to convert them on scoreboard. 11mins gone its 12.9.81 to 14.13.97

Minchington gets it to 10 points after nice handball over top by Cripps! 13.9.87 to 14.13.97

Tom Curren gets another one for Zebs! Its raining goals here at Port Melbourne! 14.9.93 to 14.13.97

Tom Curren has continued on from last week, today tagging Shane Valenti well out of the match

Lucky Port bloke misses very easy goal there! 14.10.94 to 15.14.104

Its started to rain!

Strap yourselves in Zebs, its going to be a cracker of a finish!

Shenton just the 5 disposals today

Skipper gets one for Port and its back out to 10 points. Bit of poor defending there though. 14.10.94 to 15.14.104

Galea hasnt kicked goal since opening quarter, Simpkin well and truly defeated him today.

Simpkin slips over at critical moment & Galea marks 25mins out. Port have running at moment. He misses though! 14.10.94 to 15.15.105

Thats looks like its game to Port Melbourne. Out to 17 points at 29min mark. 14.10.94 to 16.15.111

It's a good game. 4 points.
