Melbourne would have wanted him just as bad, 3 and 13 would have been the cost, and they were happy to do that. It's a shame, to think if they had to use 4 on viney, Hogan might be in blue maroon and gold.

3 + 13 were the price that Melb paid for getting Viney at 26.

2 + not bidding for Viney was the price that GC bid for Martin.

It was all back room shenigans that had a lot of other teams with their noses out of joint. If the AFL are looking at the Tippett deal for draft interference then they should be looking at this bit of dodgey dealing as well. I know EQ did an article which sold it as all above board but there was a lot more in it then she said.

Jesse White, not so shrewd.

Jesse White. :(:(

Don't lump me in with that. I don't rate White at all, but I'm not going to pretend I know more than Kerr.

Wow, great read.

Feeling pretty spoiled right now - don't know any other clubs' supporters getting an analysis like that. Transparent, accountable and having all the ear markings of someone in total control of the ship - :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

The only thing left out was what the new blokes were on salary wise and their tax file numbers.

As a bonus, the "75 calls in a day" thing means two things - 1) Dr Kerr's obviously not with Vodaphone and 2) must have invented some sort of everlasting mobile phone battery...

It also means that he is dedicated to making the BLFC as good as he can!

It could have just been one conversation.

"John, it is Rob Kerr. I'm calling bec...*click*."
...
"John, Rob Kerr. Sorry about that, must've dropped ou...*click*"
...
"don'thavelonghow'spick53and...*click*"

etc...

Love Kerr so much!

However one thing that would've been nice is if we received any concrete offers for Karnezis and such. But nevertheless thank you Kerr and the Lions for the great read :thumbsu:.

Last year there was talk of getting more help for Banfield in applying forward pressure, as well as our ball movement coming out of defence. Absence of comment would suggest they are pleased with how these areas have progressed (despite Banfield's drop in form).

What was I arguing that was different to your position?

I think Kerr is a pretty shrewd operator, and I'm quite pleased with how our list management has progressed over the off season.

I think Bewick, Green and Zorko have really added to our forward pressure, and the likes of Golby and Harwood down back have helped the ball movement there as well, not to mention Doc yet to come in. Definitely areas that aren't a major concern for us right now.

"The only other options that we considered at different times were a swap of picks with GWS who were interested in our Pick 8. Had we been able to get an agreement on a deal that involved the GWS’ Picks 12 and 14 coming to us for Pick 8 and 24, we would have seriously considered it but GWS didn’t want to give up those positions. Similarly, the options put to us by GWS were not attractive enough for us to forfeit Pick 8 "

I found this interesting too, wonder if we were offerred jed anderson along with a lower pick for 8

I read that as us still wanting some lower picks, and we were interested in getting 12 & 14 and giving up 8 & 24 but GWS didn't want to part with those two picks. They were obviously offering something else for pick 8. They might have offered a player and 1 of 12 or 14, but we clearly wanted both.

I think Kerr is a pretty shrewd operator and I am pleased how our list management progressed over the trade period. I am not pleased to hear that Jesse White was considered as an option for our list. That, I do not consider shrewd. However if Jesse's name was used to force Melbourne to come to the party and accept our offer than I consider that to be shrewd strategic positioning.
You post seemed to insinuate something more, however I will leave it at that.

yeahh and i basically said in that deal they possibly would have been including jed anderson, as he was only traded on the very last minute to hawthorn

My post was simply explaining my own position. Apologies if it came across as anything more.

Although when it comes to trading you do have some strange viewpoints at times. After we got a NEAFL player who finished in our top 10 in the B&F in his first year (arguably our best player in the 2nd half of the year), for basically a pick in 30s, I would have thought we had got a massive jump on every other club in the competition. Considering we didn't have any priority access to this player I imagine it would be something Kerr would be putting in bold and highlighting with fluoro pen when he puts it in his resume. So I thought it was strange when you said we overpaid for him. Maybe that being in the back of my mind, I was quick to distance myself, not knowing where you were going with Kerr's latest comments.

The part about Jesse Hogan made me want to put my fist through my computer monitor.

I help Melbourne get smashed to kingdom come with draft penalties.
Shouldn't you be more upset with Gold Coast? If they had of bid then we could have gotten Jesse.

If Melbourne weren't overcompensated for losing players that were ill-gotten from tanking to begin with... they probably wouldn't have been in a position to nab Hogan.

I don't get this theory that gets floated from time to time. Why were people giving stuff to GWS in order for Melbourne to get Viney at 26? I get Melbourne to GWS to not bid, but how did GC win? Why would Melbourne not be giving something to GC to not bid?
