Melbourne home ground, Sunday arvo, Melbourne are pretty darn shit, expected to be a blow out and pretty boring game.

I didn't expect anymore. Actually I thought it was a good turn out by the Hawks fans. We outnumbered the Dees fans easily.

Given this was a Hawthorn member replacement game we shouldn't be too surprised the Hawks fans held sway in the stands..

So they should be. Essendon are yet to play Carlton. And if they played Geelong and St kilda at the MCG (like Richmond), they would most likely be 3rd, well in front of Carlto). Its difficult to compare club aggregate attendances these days. 2nd with an asterix I guess.

Thank god the big clubs are propping up some of the glaringly poor attendances being registered around the country.

There's been a slow and steady decline for Darwin crowds. Getting a bit like Tassie, people there must be getting tired of nothing games being played there year after year.

Yep a bit strange that all the games played at the smaller interstate venues are dropping at the same time.

The problem the AFL has is its would be financial suicide to play one of the big games at any of these venues and I cant see the local authorities throwing a lot more money to compensate so they will only get shit games.

Tigers fans were expecting a contest against Melbourne and you certainly got one!

For a memory most tiger fans were expecting us to absolutely smash Melbourne. There were many fans angry after the game that we didn't smash them by 10 goals or more.

Not on top of Darwin footy, but people are talking about a different more central ground, similar type scenario to footy park in Adelaide where Adelaide Oval will prove ( most likely) much better.

The crowd was a bit below the average of the past few years (8,715 is the average over 7 games since 2010), but two of the last four games played at TIO had smaller crowds (7,255 to a game in 2011, 6,714 to another in 2012). The Bulldogs drew 10,108 to the corresponding game in 2010, but were top 4 that year. Richmond drew 11,506 in 2011. I think these fixtures are worthwhile for the game and Darwin. It's enjoyable seeing different venues on TV as well.

The round as a whole was never likely to draw a large aggregate because the bigger clashes in terms of ladder position were at grounds with moderate capacities. But the pleasing aspect is that solid crowds were drawn all over the country, despite poor weather in a majority of cases and expected blowouts in some others (e.g. the Hawks and Blues games). 25-30k at the Gabba, AAMI, Simonds (looked great under lights) and SCG, all in pretty bad weather. And tonight's game in Perth was a strong turnout, as always.

The criticism of the Melbourne-Hawthorn attendance seems misplaced. Fans who turn up to a likely 100-point thrashing, especially if Dees supporters, deserve a medal. 28k is pretty decent under the circumstances.

Richmond VS Melbourne drew 11,000 more people. The Tiges bandwagon wasn't even in full flight.

For a club that constantly reminds us that they have the second most members in the league, you would expect that they would at least reach 30,000.

Quite disappointing to be honest, wether it be a Melbourne home game or not.

Richmond in a bit of form at long last, Essendon having started with a run of 6 wins and still in 5th and Collingwood averaging 60K per game all substantially ahead of where they were trending after Round 10 last year. Geelong doing fine in Cat Park but less so in Melbourne. Elsewhere we see stagnating or falling attendances.

The plusses are that the giants are pulling the wagon along. The minuses are that the smaller clubs ( Dees, Dogs, North ) suffering from form and scheduling problems are falling behind. Glass half full or half empty?

Should every smaller melbourne club ( Dogs, North, Dees ) be given at least 2 of the Big 4 at home on a Fri night or Saturday with some kind of concession for mambers of the visiting club? I don't know. $5 or $6 entry or free for under 16s of whatvever as a means of getting people into the ground. it could be seen as a 2 way benefit. Say Dogs V Essendon. Cheap day out for the Bomber fan, financial injection for he Pups and better athmosphere.

It's time to stop games in Cairns and Northern Territory. We don't need to advertise the game in Northern Territory. Just build a 30,000 stadium in melbourne and stop being tight afl. Aim for a tassie team in 5 years and get north and hawthorn out of there
