I personally believe we should keep Yarran, but my thoughts would be MM would trade him in a heartbeat for a pick inside the top 10.

If we improve in areas we need to I think Yarran will be a beneficiary. That along with getting himself a lot fitter.

For example if we can get more run into the team (particularly through the middle of the ground) and we've started that process with Thomas Yarran will benefit from the more space it will create.

He's not and never will be a contested ball monster, his weapon is in finding space and using run and carry. With more two way run in the team he will find space, particularly on the counter a lot easier to come by.

All good options.

And surely if nothing happens in the next week as regards to KPF, then McCarthy becomes a real possibility.

Can't keep putting it off forever.

Considering what he has achieved while only being in the game for such a short period of time, i think he could end up one of the best players in this draft.

He's never had a preseason, his football brain is still growing, and he is very raw. What he does have is amazing physical traits, good size, clean hand, sticky fingers. I think we should go hard for McCarthy

He is KP size. Utilit in that he can play KPD and KPF pretty well. Skills and athelticism looks good but would personally have no idea on his footy smarts and development stage.
Highlights package, by omission, suggests he's more of a forward than a shutdown defender. Likes a grab, knows where the goals are.

I would've thought being able to play at boths ends was an asset. o_O Waite's imminent retirement leaves Lachie as our only genuine swingman.

Assuming we don't get a KPF in the next week, McCarthy is the guy i picked for us at 13.

I really rate Dunstan as a fit for us too. 13 is about his talent range and we could really do with a vocal and natural young leader.

Also Acres just screams the type of player you might look back in 4 years time and will say "how did we overlook him".

Some good options at 13.

I'm one who thinks there's not a big diff between 2 and 18

I feel exactly the same way. Had his injury trouble this year which have caused him to potentially slide, but i can see him as being someone who could end up the best player from this draft. Has all the tools and physical traits to be an amazing AFL footballer.

Acres and McCarthy are my 2 preferences.

I think the trick is figuring out who will be available at our pick. You could throw names like Crouch, Freeman, Acres and McCarthy and its just as likely that they will be gone at our pick as guys like Dunstan, Sheed, Salem and Taylor. I figure in this draft as long as you have a pick in the top 15 odd you'll pick a winner, this draft will be won and lost in the second round where there is probably another 10 quality players after the first round before it gets shallow, this is where some clubs will choose wrong and some picks will slide.

Are most of you in agreement that both Crouch and Freeman will not last to pick 13?

No chance in hell on Crouch.

I think someone will draft Freeman before he falls to us. I actually think the Pies might nab him.

I have a sneaking suspicion that if McCarthy is on the board, I doubt he will be, that Malthouse and co wouldn't be able to read his name and number out quick enough.

What are peoples' thoughts on McStay? Looks a likely type.

Ive played both with and against mcstay, terrific athlete, TBH i havent seen much of him in defence but as a fwd hes great on the lead and has a very quick powerful spring. I reckon he will be one of those fwds with the ability to find space off his defender rather than a big contested marking forward. Honestly havent seen him this season so im unable to comment on his ability as a defender.

its one of those things where someone has to slide. good thing about some teams having multiple picks before us is that they may be willing to take a riskier option and therefore let someone slide to us.

Hourigan sounds pretty impressive but at 192 would he be more of a third tall than KPP?

the evolution of football is amazing, not 10yrs ago guys at 195cm were consider gorilla forwards that weren't particularly mobile and a mobile forward was around the 192cm mark, now 192cm is considered not KPP height and were getting 2m tall mobile giants who dwarfed the ruckmen of days gone by. if you cant run though the midfield and your 191cm football has no place for you.
