What do you think Geelong will look like next year on a weekly basis (assuming no injuries)?

It seems we have too many players who are AFL worthy that might not make it in weekly unless there are injuries.

Rotating game time (experience) in order of importance: Smedts, Horlin-Smith, Simpkin, Kersten, Walker, Sheringham, Simpson.
Unsure what to do with Smithy, still think his hardness around the contest and clearance work is so important, just dont know where to fit him in.
Still think Pods deserves another year before Vardy takes his place. Hawk and Pods worked well together this year, he did a great job in sacrificing his game to give Hawk the space he needed to use his strength one out. Vardy is still so young, another year's experience under his belt and he takes Pods spot (in my opinion anyway).
Think Guthrie is as solid as they come and whilst doesn't have the pace or highlight reel of a murdoch or smedts will be a very solid contributor week in week out.
Whichever way the MC go though, there's some exciting talent around and watching the VFL today was a positive end to an otherwise disappointing weekend.

I wont bother posting mine pretty much as above except for Simpson and one or two slight positional changes in the 22,I had the emergencies the same.

Anyone who doesnt have Menzel in the starting 22 needs a rethink.

Putting Pods out to pasture could incur the wrath of a certain mod....here's my top 25 team with a couple of outside recruitment inclusions! just for fun.

Guys like Kersten, Stringer, Brown, Gillies, Horlin-Smith, Stringer, Walker, Simpkin to be given opportunities to grab a spot throughout the year.
*Stokes and Pods could easily slip into this side without much fuss but I've put some kids before them.

So he is,no blood pressures still up after last night.

I was proud of myself....remained calm with a steely confidence we would get back in it.

I lost my rag when the Motlop free wasnt paid....that led to a 2 goal turn around and I knew we were finished.

Freo deserved winners though.

Great line-up, lots of injury there

cant believe hardly anyone has smedts a definite starter in the 18... rate this kid so highly and its only a matter of time before he comes elite

We need Dawson Simpson in the starting team, West is a good number 2 Ruckman but he is badly exposed by the top ruck man in the AFL.

This is actually a pretty hard task, which is a good thing. But by going through the excercise it shows you that our list is pretty good and there wont be huge changes for next year.

There are only 4 players I think we can reasonably assume will play 18+ games next year (if fit), who didn't play against Freo. They are Varcoe, Menzel, Smedts, and I reckon also Guthrie. Perhaps Guthrie is a bit prospective but what the hell, I like him. Scarlett will retire, and to make way for the other 3, I'm predicting that Corey, J. Hunt and Stokes will struggle to hold their spots.

I'd love Mitch Brown to bang the door down and thrive as a third tall defender, and for Walker and or Kersten to earn a dozen games up forward. That's all a bit prospective for the purposes of this thread however.

I think this also shows our need to find another good inside midfielder. We all speak frequently of Kersten, Brown, Walker etc as good tall prospects, but we lack the midfield equivalent. I.e. a genuinely talented kid with two or three years under his belt who looks capable of becoming an A-grader.

I don't see enough VFL to know, but from what I have seen Schroder and/or Horlin-Smith.

Totally agree, I think all of the suggested teams are short one permanent midfielder. I think we should be breaking the bank to somehow add Caddy and/or Wines to that team. Otherwise, really like the look of that side.

Similar to others...

* Play Vardy forward instead of Pods. Pods has been very good for us, but its time to make the transition. It also allows us to play West and Simpson together.
* Move Bartel forward to play defensive Rooke role - he's a good mark and shot at goal, plus a ferocious tackler. He'd give opposition coaches nightmares.
* Play Brown at half back in Mackie's role, allowing Mackie to push further up the ground and kick more goals (as he did this year)
* Leave SJ in the middle and rest him forward - with Hawkins stepping up, Chapman spending more time forward, Vardy and possibly Menzel back and Kersten to step up, he can cause more damage here.
