after ablett which combination would you consider

abeltt, pendlebury, selwood, JP Kennedy
ablett, pendlebury, Kennedy, Cotchin
abeltt, swan, kennedy, selwood
ablett, swan, selwood, cotchin
ablett, swan, kennedy, cotchin

Personally I would go one of the bottom two.
I like Swan over Pendles... and have Cotch in my team. Might be leaning Kennedy over Selwood, only as I think Selwood will be rested once or twice throughout the season.

My combo is Ablett, Swan, Danger, Cotch :)

looking at Moloneys SC scores on the Hunsite - they are not very flattering at all
1.48 points per minute will still get his price up. :thumbsu: Will always play too.
I was worried about that. Had him in my team since day 1, but watching the Lions games he's been ok but not the 100 average I'd hoped for. I've been waiting for the scores to confirm my gut feeling, so it sounds like he's out.
Wanting 100 average was just plain greedy and never going to happen ! :D:p

Anyone else having second thoughts about Ablett? A lot of scratch for a guy with an unclear role coming off a ridiculous year.

...on Tuesday at the annual captain's day at Etihad Stadium, Ablett told AFL.com.au it was time to ease back on his own workload.

"I think my game time will probably lessen a little this year. Last year I played around 91-93 per cent (game time)," Ablett said

"But this year I'll probably play 88-89 per cent, which over the season is a big difference.

"Hopefully it does add an extra year or two onto my career."

Suns coach Guy McKenna has flagged that he wants to use Ablett more as a finisher , rather than provider, as he seeks to give the club's younger players increased responsibility this season.

After initially joking that McKenna hadn't yet filled him in on the plan, Ablett said he agreed it was the best step for the club's future prospects.

"I'm sure I will spend a bit more time down forward. We've got so many guys who can play through the midfield, so the more time the boys can play through there the more experience they're going to get, the better we're going to be in the future," Ablett said.

"It's probably something he'll talk to me about. He knows I'm happy to move forward or happy to play wherever is best for the team. Wherever that is - I'll play down back if I have to."

Had him last year, don't have him at the moment. Going with cheaper premiums...

He's averaged 97 before. That's close enough to 100 not to be able to say it's never going to happen.

When someone's valued at a 65-ish average, him averaging 80 makes you less than $100k and sure as hell isn't a keeper. He averages 90 and he makes you less than $200k - still not worth a selection. So if he's not going to average 100, I don't get why you'd want him in your team instead of picking a rookie.

^ You're crazy. :thumbsu:

I know, completely. BUT I'm taking the punt that he will become more consistent with Goddard in the team. Obviously Watson & Goddard will get more attention and he can pick up his 30+ touches and not be too damaging so they won't worry about tagging him which has been his big issue in the past. He's shown the first 8 weeks last year and in patches in 2011 that he can pile on enormous scores when he's let loose...IMO he's the only point of difference that can get 150+. I've only swapped him for Rich so its not like I've dropped an ultra premium for him...I think i've convinced myself...

I'm really tempted to leave him out for the first two weeks and see what happens, just haven't had the guts to remove him so far! He could have a massive $ drop after R3. Getting an Ultra Prem at the right price is just as important as picking the right rookies. It's a tough call because if he does come out and go 140/140/150 and goes UP in price you would have already spent that money ...or do you just keep the $100k in the bank for 2 weeks as a safety net? I don't know! I'm no good with prices so does anyone know how much he would drop if he averaged say 120 or 115 the first 3 rounds?

The other up side to leaving Ablett out is the Captains loophole. You have two chances of getting a big score instead of relying just on Gaz every week.

It's very tempting, there is a big pile of value for that $100-200k less.
I've been sucked into this trap before. Oh, he cant have another year like that, other players will take some of his points...

Not again, the guy is an out and out star, even if he reduces his playing time by 3 or 4 percent, all I see happening, is he pushes himselfan extra 3 or 4 percent whilst he is on. He cant turn what he has off.

First picked, not toying with it.

KP - have you been reading my team - he's been in and out more times than John Holmes! still havent decided whether he comes to toxic town or stays away, but choosing him over rich is a smart move (yes a smart move IMHO)

yes don't pick him, instead of getting 35-40 touches across half back and thru the middle he now only gets 30 touches but kicks 2-3 goals - still terrible scores at the 140-150 range ( by 2 as capt - 280-300)

But he kicks his 2 goals a game anyway, it sounds to me that he's going to get FAR less contested posession which would could shave 10-15 points off per game. Hes currently out for the first two weeks

Agree with all of this and as of yesterday, Ablett is out. Replaced by Swan. Sure, it's a gamble and I'm definitely not comfortable about it, but the extra cash has made my backline stronger.

I think your line re Captain's loophole is the clincher here - you're probably not leaving many points on the table, even if Ablett averages 139 to hold his price.
