Hrovat will average 80+ if he plays. Two of himself, Koby Stevens and Clay Smith should get games with Boyd/Libba/Wallis locked in as the other inside mids (Cross too, but he will play a different role IMO). I've got Stevens over Hrovat at this stage, but all depends on who is named round one.

Is Hrovat likely to be the sub? We seemed to have a different sub every week last year.

I don't think so. Macrae has been impressive this pre season (not from a sc perspective) and looks like he might play, he's be an ideal sub. Hrovat isn't really an 'impact' player, he should play full games when he does play.

He will play a Zorko role, tackling and applying pressure up forward.

The thing about Blicavs is that even if he's not playing rucks, there is a chance he can play elsewhere. Chris Scott had high praise for him in the Presser today and that he could play anywhere. So there is a high chance he will play round 1 and possibly 2. If he does enough, he should get more gigs.

The problem for Geelong right now is that there is a lot of competition for the last few spots on our list. So our youngsters may be in and out of the side for most of the year.

Hrovat is a gun I wish we got him! Didn't know Mitchell was elevated I thought he was still on the rookie list? I'm not sold on Stevens yet even after his great performance last week, we'll wait and see. He will play most of the year though which is a benefit for a cheap mid either way.

The Doggies are putting together a cracking midfield for the future when you include also Jackson MacRae. Exciting times, need to lock down some quality talls now...

That kind of average just isn't good enough for a midfield spot, unless it comes from someone like Mundy who is about 100k cheaper.

The thing with Scooter is that he can still become a tagger to shut down opposition players. So when he does, his SC scores suffers.

Whitfield, Couch, Toumpas, Macrae, Wines, K. Mitchell or Hrovat? At the moment I've got Wines in there and I'm not to sold on the 200k kids especially with GHS hovering around the same price but I really haven't seen enough NAB cup to make a choice. Who's the primo cow in that lot?

Brad Hill is a lock for me now. Most likely best 22 and can find the pill. Might get the green vest here and there but he knows how to find the ball and he runs all day.

I for one agree with your strategy and have wrestled with this also.
DPP appears to be a bit overrated this year IMO.

I too have wrestled this beast. The Cox fwd line, Rowe link and R2 position taken with a Leunenberger, etc Or just lock in Cox and sanother premo ruck and get another fwd? In the end I've gone the latter.

If you've got the coin, the general consensus is that Ollie Wines will play almost every game if fit.

To be honest, i would try to find an extra $20-40k more for a Cotchin, Kennedy, Dangerfield type.

Maybe upgrade Fyfe to a Cotchin/Murphy and then use the rest of the cash to fix up any holes in other areas of your side. Personally the forward lines this year look to be really troublesome, I think they might need the most attention.

At 600k I'd suggest going with your gut feeling. If you pick up a nice POD like Kieran Jack or Andrew Swallow and it comes off as a masterstroke then you're going to be laughing.

Was he injured during the entire nab? Is he physically ready to slot straight into AFL. Is he on par with Koby Stevens regarding how many games he may play?
I have heard conflicting reports regarding how many, if any games he'll play this year.

Yes, Hrovat had a quad strain and has been prevented from playing all NAB Cup.
He is the most physically ready of all of the dogs recruits. I think he is a better player than Koby but hat people don't realise is that he won't be playing in the midfield. He has been groomed as that high pressure, classy small forward.
