Can you see the likes of WB, North, GWS, GC & Sydney who survive on AFL assistance really arguing the point?
The AFL would rightfully say to them, you want our money, you will do as we tell you.
It's why the AFL can do whatever they want because the majority of the competition survives on financial handouts.
Let's hope your president does his usual outburst & puts up a fight :p

IMO 19 would be a reach for Garlett.
But you never know. Draft really evens out after about 15 this year.

He was rated top 20 by afl.com.au after his impressive combine. Apparently could be the first WA boy to get picked.

Pickett and Smith would be right up there as well.
Wouldn't surprise me if the went inside the top 20 either.
Can't recall a more even draft that this one.

Which is why trading pick 7 is not so outrageous ;)

And yet we're trading 7 to get into that territory.:(

At the end of the day, the club are weighing up whether or not we'll get anyone better at 7 than Jacksh.
As McCartin and Wright will be gone by then and probably Durdin as well, I doubt there'd be a better KPP than Jacksh still there at 7.
And we can pick up a pretty good mid later in the draft anyway.

Reckon we might be able to jag a tall later too. I'm still not keen.

Historically speaking, most of the good talls have been taken early in the draft, so I suspect if we want a good one we're going to have to pay to get one.
And maybe the club doesn't want to risk it that say a Keitel and McKenzie are gone by the time our second pick comes around.

I'm warming to Jacksh for #7 as long as we get another pick around the 20 mark.

We will be getting 19 (IMO) :p

Need more than that. Jaksch is still speculative. Hasn't made the grade, just shows signs of promise.

One day we'll embrace the draft surely.

Haven't we done this in the past (particularly with our first round selections) and look where it's gotten us.
And the draft isn't the panacea to all of our problems.

Jacksh who was a highly regarded junior who has had 2 years of development in him is well worth the investment IMO.
If we could get Jacksh plus two picks around the 20's i'd be pretty happy.

I thought that loading up on draft picks was a sign of embracing the draft?

This is my point exactly.

On our list how many top 10 picks have we buggered up? Now weigh that against the picks we've had in the 11-25 range and do the math.

Far better chance of securing elite talent in the first 10.

We're only hearing of 1 good pick coming back at this stage. If it becomes 2 then that changes things somewhat.
If we get KJ, 19, a player AND an upgrade of pick 28 to 21 ... I think that would be a very good outcome.

If we trade 28 for KJ - we have pick 7 & 40something.

Do it the other way and we finish with 19, 21, 40something + KJ & a player.

If you have a look at this years draft, it is very even after the top 6 IMO.
McCartin, Wright, Brayshaw, Petracca, Durdin and Laverde are ahead of the pack.
After this throw a blanket over the next 15 or so.
We might back ourselves to get someone we have rated higher than other clubs.
I really do back Shane Rogers and recruiting team to get it right this year.

Exactly, there isn't that much separating the player that will get picked at 7 with the player that will be picked at 20. This is compounded by the fact that Moore and Heeney are out of the draft pool already.

There would be some really exciting players still around that 19 - 23 mark ie. Garlett, Cockatoo, McKenzie, Marchbank, Ellis.

If we could trade 7 for Jaksch, 19 and 21, get a pick upgrade for Garlett and 28 to 23, and pick 44 for Jones we would have a great trade period.

In: Jaksch, Jones, 19, 21, 23
Out: 7, 28, 44, Garlett

Keep Robbo!
