If you have a look at this years draft, it is very even after the top 6 IMO.
McCartin, Wright, Brayshaw, Petracca, Durdin and Laverde are ahead of the pack.
After this throw a blanket over the next 15 or so.
We might back ourselves to get someone we have rated higher than other clubs.
I really do back Shane Rogers and recruiting team to get it right this year.

I have no issue with Shane or the team, but I won't buy that pick 7 isn't greatly separated from 19 in terms of quality. As I have said previously I think the later half of this years top dozen is being undervalued.

If the best we can get is Jaksch, 19 and Whiley for 7 then thats a no from me. Upwards of that and I'll begin to see some sense in it.

The only way one can honestly assess the scenario is to drop Jaksch into this draft.

Not saying this is the case but it would make little sense to forego Jaksch if we rate him higher than a Durdin/Marchbank etc. just to wave a #7 around.

I'd love to know how Rogers sees things.

I'd be stunned if he was rated higher than Durdin.

Even if that's the case, I highly doubt Durdin would be still there at #7 anyway with the Bulldogs having the pick before us.
So we get a KPP that we need who's had 2 years in the system and potentially a 2 good players at 19 and our second round pick.

Our 2nd round pick is irrelevant as we already had that.

Lets not kid ourselves, Jaksch has been developed in the Neafl which is way down the pecking order in terms of state leagues. He's been taught in a system lacking in experienced campaigners ( I know it's like the word gay these days, has a completely new connotation around here :D) to show him the way.
Jaksch, 19 and a periphery player doesn't cut the mustard.
Whilst Durdins a shot, I wouldn't part with 7. Even if we miss him, there still will be quality on the table.

Interesting that Rogers had Jaksch rated at pick #5 in the 2012 draft, isn't it?

I asked the question and Rogers told all to Loretta. :)
Whitfield, O'Rourke, Plowman, Toumpas, Stringer, Macrae, Wines, Mayes, Vlastuin, Daniher, Menzel, Jaksch

How I think he rated them:
Whitfield, Menzel, Mayes, Wines, Jaksch....you can sort of agree. O'Rourke and Plowman IMO are not good picks in retrospect...Toumpas hasn't come along, Stringer and Macrae were bolters (very good picks by Doggies, still some doubt on Stringer maybe) while Vlastuin was a bolter in that only Richmond had him in the top 10 for his leadership capabilities.

I did get the impression that we may have liked Toumpas also, along with Vlastuin but maybe not as much as Menzel & Jaksch.

Us supporters can at times lean towards the new and shiny but Jaskch as a KPP has only just turned 20.

Anyway, it's all out of our hands and if we go to the draft with #19 & #28 intact for starters, we could do/will do some good things.

I just remember scratching my head over what exactly this Henderson kid had achieved after playing only a handful of games with the Lions.

Slap HGF then, he dropped his name off the top 6, I think I almost prefer Ahern to Lav.

Ahern is too inconsistent for mine.
The times I saw Laverde play he was in the Jets and VM best almost every time.
Don't think we'll be keeping #7 anyway.

Very interesting. I had a convo last night with someone who i respect highly and we agreed that Hendo as a junior was a superior player to Jaksch and he went later in his pool.
Might say more about that draft than where he lines up against this crop.

There's a real possibility Jaksch could cop the Bronx cheers like Lachie did if he isn't dominating straight away, isn't there?

Hendo only slipped to pick 8 because he had a leg injury for most of his draft year. Was touted as top 3 before the injury.

I found two parts of that interesting.

1. That Jaksch was rated so high. (I thought it was 9)
2. Why Rogers would have openly stated this before the deal being done.

Jaksch doesn't seem to be as mobile as Henderson in the games I've seen, at least.
Henderson is very clean below his knees and it's a shame that we've already effectively lost 2 years of his best at the CFC due to injury.

Anyway, if the deal does go through we'd be holding #19, #28, hopefully #40 (if we can nab this off GWS) #46, #61, #65.
Guess we'll lose at least one of those picks to The Dogs for Jones but Rogers gets the 5 picks he hoped for.

Hendo was over the leg injury and everyone was aware of his talent. Touted as top 3? Maybe by some, but not by all.

In all honesty and I don't mean to be offensive, I'll trust the ones who said it at the time who werent trying to prove/argue a point.
