My understanding is that we have to pay 100% of the cap, or at least 95% of it as per afl rules. I think that is why so many players signed extensions late last year. The club pulled the offer to buddy and with the cash (obviously not all of it) front loaded a whole lot of other players contracts.

Yep, but a pretty big difference between 95 and 100, in fact I think it may even be 5%..(approx 500k right?)

In all seriousness though, if a lot of contracts have been front loaded I wonder how much we have free in the cap for next year. That money has to be spent somewhere, I just think the club may be more advanced with who they are going to get, and exactly how much room in the cap we will have to offer.

I think we should trade for Patrick Dangerfield this year before he becomes a free agent. I think our first rounder and TO would do it.

He'd need something like a top 5 pick and another gun player. At least. Anything less and people are kidding themselves.

Think about it OP - would we have traded Hodge or Mitchell in their prime, for pick 15 and an unproven player?

I think we would be giving up too much. How about Garlett and Spangher, for Dangerfield and their 2nd pick.

Seems legit.

According to possibly unreliable gossip we're already mounting a rear attack on Freo via Mundy. I have nothing against the idea that our big stealing methods continue to bring amazing results and hell, whom amongst you would admit to not having a lot fun with speculating but this kid is worth not the effort.

Everybody hates us anyway. I say Patrick, you are welcome to choose Hawthorn because we like the idea of you as well.

I feel our list is getting to long in the tooth to be chasing Mundy!!!

Could not agree more. We will have a pretty good idea how our window is looking by the end of the year. My gut tells me our chance to go back to back actually ended in 2012. Would prefer to use the cash on younger free agents than Mundy over the next couple of years. Hence Dangerfield should be the choice.
On the flip side, if we end up performing well in September and our senior players finish the year strongly; Mundy may be worth a punt.

If they were 100% leaving for nothing in a year then maybe.

Not at all and I understand your adherence to non risk taking technology, Rowie.

The idea being that the fright that we're about to lose our view through the premiership window is not to be under any circumstances to be not avoided. Contingency has as much credence in that argument as necessity. I hope you can see by now what the problem is for Hawthorn.

I'm calling this my ideal miss theory.
