Hi new member just wanted to join in on convo just a quick one on Beams status as free agent as of end 2015 he will be a restricted free agent which means what ever we offer the pies have the right to counter offer to keep him.

Hi welcome, but as mentioned numerous times in this thread, Beames is NOT a restricted free agent at the end of 2015. He is out of contract.

Yeah,l am starting to think this as well. Plus if Saints pick petracca first then we have a genuine chance to get McCartin.
I don't think so. Melbourne will end up with picks 2, 3 (Frawley Compensation) and another first round pick for Mitch Clark via trade. With pick 1 and 2 they should draft Wright and McCartin, hence using the rest of their picks to draft the best available midfielder. Melbourne will draft the best available players with picks 2 and 3.

I believe there was talk on Adelaide radio of burger to port Adelaide. surely would only happen if Ryder was heading your way.

you'd think if there is a clause in his contract, then he would use it to force a trade, not just leave like a dog
Leuy might be a good fit for you guys, but I doubt that will happen. His been loyal to the club and ain't going no where, but then again crazier things have happened during the trade period.

He will be uncontracted in 2015, but we still have to trade for him. He becomes a free agent in 2016.

Clark has a child living in Queensland from a previous relationship and it is understood he would favour playing for an eastern seaboard club and most likely for a Victorian club.

I think we all knew this, but adds to the mix of possibilities.

Personally, I see Clark winding up at the Pies in a deal with Harry O'Brien.

Welcome mate, good to have you on board. Just to let you know that Dayne Beams is NOT a free agent at the end of 2015, he doesn't qualify until the end of 2016

I know sorry not off to the best start I meant to type 2016 earlier bottom line throw kitchen sink at him now the blokes a gun.

First, welcome aboard :thumbsu:

Second; perhaps no need for the sink, maybe just a tap or two. Or even doing nothing (no Darcy Moore bid) may get us something ;)

Pick 4 and letting Moore be taken as a 2nd rounder works out to be picks 4 + 8 for Beams with only Carlton and the Bulldogs being able to realistically alter this (but both need KPF).

Time for Swanny to call in a few favours :D

Love the way you think! But big Ed wont be doing us any favour's he hates us for knocking them off in 02-03.

Only way for this to become anything more than a pipe dream is for Beams to declare he want to join the Lions and his brother.

Then it becomes a 50/50 proposition. Now it's simply a few whispers from the fact we have cap space, Claye plays for us and that he's from QLD.

I get this feeling we might do something a little bit interesting this trade period

Aish remains non committal about signing a new deal early - Adelaide currently have pick 9, if we are unsure about the future of Aish and he is showing big signs of moving back to Adelaide post contract then trading Aish for pick 9 and Adelaide's second rd pick would allow us to offer pick 4 and 9 for Beams- now before anyone cracks it about selling the farm we would be getting a Brownlow favourite and top 10 midfielder in the comp for the next 7 seasons.

Merrett is the other interesting one- pretty sure Freo and Hawks would trade their 1st rd pick for him because of their need to replace McPharlin and Lake at season's end.

A top 20 pick or 2 picks under 30 would probably get Ryder, because the Bombers would not want any player to test the breach of contract clause!

I agree. We need to back ourselves in to retain talent, especially first round draft picks with strong ties interstate. I'm not so sure about the slap in the face to the AFL but it certainly would be to our welfare and list management staff.

We keep Aish. Its more important he stays than getting Beams in my opinion.
We have a very young list and are known in the competition to be re building around players like Lewy, Aish, Gardiner, McStay etc.
Secure Aish first...... then think about Beams.

I also want to keep Crisp. Loved what he showed last year. His height and pace are exciting.

The only trade I'm open to is Luey. I just think it might give him a fresh beginning at a new club. I also have doubts with Martin /Luey combo.
As far as ruckman go...Martin gave us an extra running mid. But he shouldn't play that as a dedicated role.
Luey is a great tap ruckman so Martin is forced to be something he's not.
A Martin and Ryder combo with Martin playing 70% ruck and 30% forward and Ryder 70 forward 30 ruck is super potent.
Ryder is a better forward than Luey and importantly a lot more robust.

Having said all this.... talk to Luey first.... if he wants to stay.... keep him

How much more unequivocal do the Lions need to be??? They have stated that Merrett is going nowhere. I think the Lions have learnt their lesson in the Bradshaw trade.

Not advocating any of this. Just putting together some possibilities as to how trades could be facilitated. I am hoping we keep Aish.

Doesn't matter how much the club states that Merrett isn't going anywhere. When Freo and the Hawks come knocking with a top 20 draft pick on offer and provide Merrett a chance of playing in a premiership, I am pretty sure there is a chance our position will change. I would see this as a win for both parties.

Always picked you as someone who'd sell their soul at the first sign of interest. :D

So he has a child living in Queensland but he'd prefer to live in another state and not be with his child?

How could you not want to be close to your child. Must be some serious issues for this to be the case.

If we get offered a 1st Round Pick for Merrett I suspect the authorities would get involved and have the person(s) who made the offer Sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
