Thats a pretty impressive set of work and shows a fairly large amount of strategic thinking and acumen as well as real world application. Given the world we live in and where its going digitally I certainly think someone with this set of skills is worthy of putting his hand up for the board and given the current blend of skills already on the board, James's skills is certainly an area of under representation. I fail to see how its less relevant than being involved at a high level in business, accounting or law. It will be interesting to see what his platform for election will be.
Not to mention award winning.

I agree that board members should not necessarily be made up entirely of experienced CEO types, industry leaders or successful business people. Including strong professionals with various experience (e.g. projects, governance, policy, budget) from either the private/public sector with a real connection with the fan base is probably just as valuable. Just because someone is a fan, posts on a forum or is an active member it shouldn't be assumed they would not be capable of functioning on a board.

I don't know James or anyone on here, but have some knowledge of how difficult his job of taking an archaic, change-resistant, law enforcement agency with their culture of releasing information not only into the social media space but being the standard for other LEAs around the world is an enormous achievement.

I have never met James but I also have heard of his work through clients who use it as best practice in the field. Always had a lot of respect for him in that space.

http://www.smh.com.au/good-weekend/...oversial-coffee-crusader-20141107-11ccc1.html this article is timely and might help members understand what makes Philip Di Bella tick.

Yeah, not exactly loving what I am reading to be honest. Has done very well with his coffee business, that can't be denied.

But is he a one hit wonder? Who knows... but that is something I am pondering. Also seems to have a quite the ego on him and lacks a bit of class at times.

He's an interesting candidate but can't say I look at him and think "shit, we just HAVE to get this guy on the board!"

As an aside... where were some of these candidates when we were in the absolute shit over the last few years? Should we have a healthy suspicion that some people might be jumping on board after we have already established an upward trajectory?

Apparently he's been a Corporate box holder for the last few years so there's some kudos in that but is maybe not the type of person who would work well on a Board. Like many Entrepreneurial types he seems a tad ego centric.

Yeah, is he being pushed in that direction, or is he just seeing an opportunity in the changing face of the board? As TBD mentioned, a shit board of a failing club is suddenly looking attractive and on the move up. I'd be scrutinising motives.

You could say they may have been dissuaded by other individuals on the board who are now no longer there. Could also say that it doesn't matter. That if they have the requisite knowledge, skill, connections and enthusiasm then of what consequence is it?

I would say its not unusual for people to 'jump on board' after there are 'signs of light'. A 'healthy suspicion' is as far as i'd go and should be applied to ALL of the candidates rather than 'some'.

EDIT: I'm also assuming its not unusual for the Lions to approach people to sit on the board?

So basically that whole post was premised on my casual use of the word "some". Heh.

Well no. I addressed your question which asked where were these candidates when we were doing poorly. I also addressed your question which asked if we should have a healthy suspicion of some of the candidates motives. A part of my answer was premised on the use of some. Although posting on a forum its hard to do anything but take text at face value.

I merely disagreed with some of what you said. I would have preferred no response if I knew it would be as ill thought out as that.
