He was out with an ankle injury

Ask yourself this, would Laidler get a game at Hawthorn?

I just don't get all this bemoaning about him, he wasn't deemed worthy to make The Swans Grand Final team last year, we haven't lost much by letting him go, I am very happy with the player we got from the Swans that same period (in a different transaction) in Everitt.

Laidler is okay, but no world beater and not the type a rebuilding club like us needs.

I'm not too pissed about losing Laidler. He is a player who fits in well with a team ranked 5th-18th - plays a role, would get pushed out as the team got higher on the ladder. He would no doubt be handy for us right now.

What pisses me off is the way it was handled. Mick pretty much just didn't like him from day one. Told him to play forward instead of back, and I think Laidler said himself that Mick thought that "his style of play didn't fit in with Micks game plan". All of us Carlton faithful thought Laidler was a sook and it's good that he was moved on - in Mick we trust yadda yadda yadda.

Whether he plays in Sydneys best 22 or not, he's still playing a role in one of the best teams in the league. Credit to him.

Plus he plays the position that we have enough players of. Tuohy, Docherty, Buckley, Brynes, Yarran, Fields, etc.

I love people like you... basing your opinions on a player because of a couple of bad games...

Matthew Dick... don't know where you get the opinion that he is no good based on the massive number of games that he has played in his career since 2012. But you put down that DVR looks likely and it is based on what? a warm fuzzy feeling?

At the moment, both Dick and DVR are in the same unknown basket because we havent really seen enough of either of them to make a decent judgement of them at SENIOR level.

If you are going on your system of assessment, you might as well throw Giles into the no good basket because he has done **** all at the club in the time he has been there. Ohh wait... he has been injured for most of the time he has been at the club so we might as well delist him at the end of the year.

Brad Walsh... played a couple of VFL games and was the sub in one senior game... but looks likely.

Matty Dick when he gets a fully functional defence around him might be a lot better than you think. In his couple of appearances for the club so far, he has looked serviceable in his role. We can only give him more time to settle in and we can see how he goes after he has played 20-30 games.

Are you related to Dick? From what I've seen won't make it. Just doesn't appear up to AFL level. My opinion.

DVR is a smooth mover and classy. He makes it. Walsh like his inside play and leadership. Think pre season will do wonders.

Giles looked likely before injury as third tall. Will give him a chance.

Who else you got angry?

All the people who said that Armfield is useless and should be delisted at the end of the year... when it is quite obvious that he has a role to play at the club and should be retained. Also... all the people saying that we should give Kreuzer his marching orders because he hasnt played 200 games already and won 6 Brownlows and because he didnt have 100 hitouts against Sandilands.

Lucas was a smooth mover.

Cachia had some nice inside play.

Giles....well....did he even manage 6 VFL matches?

It's all well and good to say people look likely as 18 year olds but there's a big gap between 'having potential' and bring any good. Plenty more don't make it than do.

From what you've seen...? As in, half a dozen VFL games and 2 AFL games (one as sub) under Malthouse when we were absolute shite across the board?

From what I can see, Dick is averaging about 19 touches a game off half back, and running at over 87% disposal efficiency. He's not even 21 yet. He may not be on par with Doc, Buckley, Tuohy, Byrne, Simpson, Yarran etc. but at the very least he is a composed user of the ball with an AFL-ready build who can slot into the seniors if required.

I don't see him as a phenomenal prospect that we need to pump games into ASAP, but he gives us a bit more class in the reserves to ensure our young guys develop well, and he gives us depth if our million other half back flankers get injured.

He gets a game at Sydney, who are fourth on te ladder. I don't really care much for this argument, it's pretty simple really. Some clubs would choose him over others for that role in the back line, some wouldn't.

I was merely pointing out that you were bullshitting about him getting dropped last week and he was in fact injured.

Opinion only and hoping M Dick proves me wrong!

We don't want list cloggers - had enough of those. Hoping he doesn't become one...

Well I read on the Sydney board that he was dropped and I assumed that was the case, so it was an honest mistake on my part, but still the fact that he wasn't picked for Sydney's GF squad last year means that clearly Laidler is only a depth player up there, nothing more.

So not including the rookie draft/list, player movements could look like this over the off season.
Out
Hendo (Trade)
Yarran (T)
Judd (Retired)
1 more retirement (either Carrots/Walker)
At least 3 delistings (Watson/Ellard look to have their papers stamped)
And Warnock out (via trade/delisting)

8 players out in total (senior list only)

In
2 rookie promotions (Wood/Johnson/Sheehan/Byrne)
4 draftees (inc Silvagni)
2 FA/Trade players (Aish almost looks certain)

I come in peace!

As the chatter has been about Yarran on the move, predominately media driven.

But genuinely curious as to what you believe his value is?
More than what we will get in my opinion.

Is having a poor season after a good one and is said to have off field issues. Others think he is out of condition and disinterested. A trheory is he misses his mates Betts, Garlett and Robinson.

One thing is certain is we are not seeing his best this year, and his best is very good indeed. Has great skill, pace and is tougher than most give him credit for.

We got him for pick 6 and he is still worth that IMO, but realistically anything in the first round or an equivalent player would get it done I think. He is under contract next year so he won't be fire-saled.

Brereton put it this way the other day:

Yarran could win you a Premiership in a top team.
Yarran could also be playing 2nds in a bottom team.

He may have been onto something. .

What happened in 2014 has nothing to do with this year. Laidler had played every game this year until he missed last week with an ankle injury, which makes your comment about him being "dropped again" seem quite odd. He's also been talked up a lot by Swans players and coaches for his improved form.

I reckon we should consider bringing in Tom Bellchmbers, is out of form and favour at Essendon but perhaps he is just sick of being in that dump and all the crap and would be an upgrade on Robbie Warnock and Cameron Wood and wouldnt cost much more, is also still only 25.

No, just no.

Wood >>>> TBC
