Not that I am particularly for or against any of these hypotheticals, I can't help but imagine half of those strongly advocating Weitering probably haven't even see him play... It's the 'cool' thing to do going to the draft.

Treloar isn't worth pick 1, not by a long chalk.
Only two players in the league you'd trade pick 1 for, Jesse Hogan or Jeremy Cameron.
Backs: Jamison/Rowe/Jacksh/Tuohey/Buckley/Byrne/Sheehan/Simpson/Docherty/Dick [Weitering?, Carlisle?]
Mids: Gibbs/Thomas/Murphy/Cripps/Graham/Curnow/Boekhurst
Forwards: Menzel, Walker, Casboult, Everitt, ( Smith, Tutt Jones!!!)
Carlilsle is a huge lift for KPP defender stocks - hence the interest.
Looking at forward line ....pretty thin pickings. Midfield can't cope with any injuries either
Coach will have to manufacture some depth in forward line and a game plan which works for this list.
Don't think we are as far away from being decent as most have concluded.
Byrne/Sheehan coming back with some development from Holman/Whiley improves desperate situation - new coach has a big job.
SOS can add value by getting something awesome for Henderson/Yarran/Bell situations.
Would have no problem looking at Johnno/Kelly types to bring some experience in to midfield.
Disagree, many years Treloar would go pick 1 in the draft. The fact he is a proven AFL gun only helps his case.
There's no way Dodoro accepts pick 19 for Carlisle. Is pick 19 even ours?
Clarke just re-signed for 12m with Freo SV.Trade idea: Leuenberger to Fremantle as Free Agent - Brisbane get 2nd round pick tied to theirs (circa 22) as compensation
Fremantle trade Zak Clarke to Essendon
Carlton trade Chris Yarran to Fremantle
Essendon trade Jake Carlisle to Carlton
Bell to Brisbane for 2nd rounder (circa 22)
Trade Brisbanes 2nd (22) and our second (20) (1757 points) for Sydneys pick 15 and pick 35ish (1634 points)
Trade 15 to GWS in the deal for Plowman/Phillips etc

I said all along that we should have kept the picks and Kennedy and taken Dangerfield and 3 and cotchin at 1 keeping Jacobs as first Ruck.
Then I said we shouldn't have traded for Warnock and have drafted Beams.
Then I said we shouldn't have traded for McLean and Lucas but instead draft Talia and Fyfe.
I doubt that we would get pick 35ish back, otherwise there isn't a huge incentive for the trade. The point of such a deal is for Sydney to be able to retain their 2nd rd pick by using their 3rd rd pick instead.
For a club in our position, we simply can't afford to trade our first pick for a mid, no matter how good he is.
Thoroughly agree with the approach SOS seems to be implementing by building the spine first with Weitering, and probably Plowman and Carlisle.
Because the Trent Croad trade backfired spectacularly for Freo, can't see the no 1 draft pick ever traded again tbh
yeah we probably would as pick 20 and 21 has more points value than 15 and 35
While we're on the subject of KPF's.
Has the game moved away from the Boyd/Cloke/Hawkins-type forwards? It seems that the top end teams are getting by with leaner, mobile forwards fed by quality delivery. I'd be really curious to see the breakdown for teams like Hawthorn, Freo and West Coast in terms of how many goals are scored from uncontested marks in the forward 50 vs. contested marks.
Do we need a better gorilla forward than Casboult? Or would we be better off drilling our part time forwards and mids on how to create space and opportunity?
NM played three talls on the weekend, and only ever looked dangerous when they got out the back, or Waite got a metre separation on his man. It could be argued that a smaller forward could do the same thing given enough space to work with. The Roos spent the second half of the game bombing the ball in high to a static Petrie or Brown 1-on-1 and they got beat just about every time.
So, with Bolton coming across from Hawthorn, do we really want to be throwing high picks and oodles of cash at a potential gun KPF?
I reckon we're better off improving our defence, finding another quality mid, and grabbing some athletic leading forwards whenever the opportunity presents.

Looks and plays like a mix of the good Michael Jamison/Cameron Giles

If anything we should be getting gun mids before worrying about kpds.
No we shouldn't. You build a gun team around it's spine. In terms of a back bone we have about 1 vertebrae of a spine.
History has shown that all premiership sides have one thing in common, an A grade midfield. Midfielder can carry a poor defence or poor forward line , eg Geelong and eagles in the last 10 years.
Eagles are in a grand final with a team with its kpds decimated, and Hawthorne traded in all their kpds for cheap.
You can't win a premiership without an A grade midfield, that's the bottom line
Anyone have an update on Giles?Fingers crossed he has jamo's feet and giles' shoulders...

thisIt's easier to land a gun onballer than a gun KPP in a draft.
Would the bombers be interested in Walker from Geelong? Would allow Hooker to return to defence. At worst for us would be pick 19 and our third rounder...like the ryder deal with port
boyd will be a good player and he isnt leaving. i like the way we are going. sos said earlier in the year its a 3 year rebuild. if we could get carlisle weitering plowman we have built our defence for the next decade. with some good picks we can add to our midfield which is needed. there is also some talented tall forwards in the draft after schache. mackay x 2, weideman, smith are all options. this rebuild will take time but we can make some big steps in the next couple of months. im excited
Anyone have an update on Giles?
I remember seeing that someone was going to email Trigg, as apparently he is pretty good on getting back to the masses........
I would really like a reason
