I watched a lot of Jones when he was at the Bulldogs and I was never impressed. Recruiting him really demonstrates that Malthouse had lost the plot and is an indictment on the rest of the club for not standing up to Malthouse and stopping the trade.

If some of the proposed trades being mooted on this board are in the wind then I hope someone at the club grows a set and says NO.
Can guarantee MM didn't arrange his contract. May have requested he come on board but others responsible for the rest.

Someone had a reasonable idea on trade radio today about brokering a 3 way deal with Brisbane and West Coast involving Bell, Redden and West Coasts first (17). There would probably need to be some pick shuffles later to get it to work (17 is overs for bell and redden), but a good idea in theory.

Whichever way, if we can bring in Plowman & Tomlinson while banking a couple of next years selections with losing Yarran, Henderson and Bell, we may have done quite well.............a little pick-up in the PSD and we'll pack up the trade period with a smile.

Especially if the little PSD pickup is Dangerfield

The game is about 1. Turnovers and 2. Clearances. The type of players you need are athletes that can defend space. Rowe v Gibson is a good example. Under the spine you might call them both fullbacks. But if you watch closely Gibson is usually diving like a fieldsman at first slip trying to pick off a handball or an underground kick more than he is spoiling a long bomb which he does very well also. Rowe is more your traditional run with, spoil if you can guy. Difference Gibson is more of an athelete who is tall rather than a tall. To 've fair Gibson is playing in a structured defence and knows he has Frawley behind him if the ball vets over the top and any number of runners covering our back.
Actually Gibson is 189cm, which really isn't that tall. But your right, he plays a disciplined game, spoils effectively and plays an effective role in a structured defence that transitions to the best midfield in the AFL - not with long bombs to Key Position players but with a precision short kicking game.

I can see something like this happening..

Adelaide cut a deal with Geelong to accept comp for dangerfield..
Then trade Adelaides compo pick 14 to Geelong for pick 9 and a player like Corey Gregson (from Glenelg)

Geelong know we want a 1st round for Hendo so wont matter to them if its pick 9 or 14, but will keep the crows happy knowing they get a pick upgrade and a solid player in Gregson and we get pick 14 for Henderson which is about fair value.

I was thinking similar except Pick 14 + Walker to CFC.

We don't need to load up on 3rd & 4th round picks, they are like confetti this year.

Sheik did you read one of the previous posts about the points required for f/s players. If Rice requires a pick higher than ours at 38, we can match it but then owe points to the draft meaning our next pick currently 56 will get pushed back. If Silvagni requires a pick higher than this we will then owe more points which will have to be paid in next years draft. So even steak knife picks are useful in drafts from now even if we have no plan on using them on the day.

A decision which many still think was the wrong one.

The Melbourne/GWS trade wasn't one pick for multiple players - both sides gave up the same amount of resources.

Melbourne got Tyson and Salem.
GWS got Kelly and McCarthy.

Don't think Melbourne are clear winners there.

I dont think Mccarthy had anything to do with the trade to the dees.
