If we trade pick 20 odd for him, theres a fair chance that pick would instantly be in the top 35 on our list so he would want to add something

Yeah, I'd rather go to the draft where there is a chance of mining a good player, than trade in known spuds (average at best) from one of the most broken teams I have ever seen. And I supported Melbourne over the past 10 years.

Im normally against adding kids for the sake of it but we are still quite short for young talent due to the trading out of multiple second round picks in years past

Maybe Hird was just a shocking coach and Melkshams talent has been wasted.

All jokes aside I actually trust our list management. They haven't set a foot wrong (apart from Lamumba) since Roos started despite all our bickering and moaning.

Melbourne side with trade rumours:

B: Jetta Dunn Garland
HB: Salem McDonald Lumumba
C: Hartlett Vince Jones
HF: Bennell Pedersen Watts
F: Kent Hogan Garlett
R: Gawn Prestia Viney

I/C: Melksham Brayshaw Tyson Vandenberg

Melbourne side without trade rumous:

B: Jetta Dunn Garland
HB: Salem McDonald Lumumba
C: Tyson Vince Brayshaw
HF: Howe Pedersen Watts
F: Kent Hogan Garlett
R: Gawn N Jones Viney

I/C: Harmes Vandenberg Frost Newton

Just read that Whitecross is a UFA. I know his knee isn't great, but I think he's been fit most of the year but out of favour. Could be an option off that HBF.

Hawthorns worst kick would still be in our top 5, incredible how they develop ball users

Taylor Duryeas kicking last night was brilliant and he is one of there bottom 6 players

This isn't quite right. A lot of those traded second rounders were compensation picks (2012 - pick 13 from Scully became pick 20 which became Dawes and our actual second rounder became Viney, 2013 - Sylvia compo pick became Vince, our second rounder became pick 9, 2014 - our second rounder became three young players in Frost, pick 40, and pick 54.

We have 17 players aged 22 or under inc. Tyson, Kent, Viney, Hogan, Salem, Harmes, Petracca, Brayshaw, ANB, and Stretch. What we're lacking is young KPP talent outside of Hogan and TMac (Frost and Oscar still completely raw) and quality players in the 23 to 28 bracket. Outside of TMac, Jones, Garland, Dunn, Pedersen, Garlett, Gawn, and Jetta it's Newton, Vandenberg, Michie, Trengove, Watts, Howe, Terlich, Matt Jones, Spencer, Grimes, Dawes, Lumumba. Pretty grim reading.

It's a lot easier to kick well when you're playing in a well coached side where your teammates are always running to exactly the right places for you, when you have champs like Hodge and Mitchell winning the ball for you and taking off the pressure when you're carrying it, and when you have confidence in your game plan.

My theory is that we are trying to build something similar. Get that tough, experienced core in (led by Richie Vandenberg at the Hawks, and then Mitchell and Hodge) place first and then focus on drafting talented footballers and get them in shape. Imagine how much better Morton, Watts, Gysberts and more would have turned out if they'd been drafted into a team led by Sam Mitchell and Luke Hodge rather than Brent Moloney and Brad Green.

Roos is very consistent in his message that he is building layers to the side.. Next year will be more focused on attack with Goodwin focused on the gameplan

Cant argue with them words.. Fair play

Haven't bought into the Milkshake debate thus far, but I think SuburbanMe is right.

He's not a star, but he's better than the 42nd bloke on our list so he is an improvement. I'd rather see Milkshakes getting a game over Bail/MJones/McKenzie etc etc.

For the amount that he is reportedly being offered he'd want to be better than the 42nd bloke on our list by a fair f***ing margin.

Except he isn't.

Well you may think that, but if the reports are true you don't go after a 24yo with a 100 games under his belt and give him a 3 or 4 year deal if you don't think he is in your best 22. Some supporters may not like it but im pretty sure the coaching stuff think he is.

He's better than Matt Jones, Bail etc and they played plenty of football in 2015

Our recruiting policy needs to be a bit more stringent than "better than Matt Jones and Rohan Bail".

Melksham's contract size is really not the issue. Average player payment is $230,000 pa. Generally to bring in a player from another club you're going to have to pay overs, and I highly doubt $170k is going to be the different over the next few years between us being able to sign certain players and not, especially with the amount of dead weight we still have to cut.
