Just an idea ive had since scully left... It gives the clubs control over the players and if it not working out we trade them out

5 years seems a long mandatory period to hold on to someone. Lucas Cook says hi.

It'd be done in small steps anyway. 3 years mandatory I can see, but going further than that seems unnecessary.

What if they're really bad an no-one wants them? 5 years is a long time to be stuck.

I wouldn't be against 2 years plus a 1 year option for the club or something.

5 years isn't fair on player or club though I don't think.

The AFL is clearly moving in the direction of a free agency type model though Sock045, so I can't see any rules being brought in that go against that philosophy.
What if they are good and they pull a scully again... That's where i think this system is awfully unfair

If schoenmakers gets dropped for the GF (to make room for Gunston) I'd be expecting Melb to be straight in his ear.

He would offer flexibility being able to play back & fwd, but I think he could play a 2nd kpf with Hogan.

Would be 25 next year & wouldn't cost a huge amount in $$$ or trade. Thoughts?

Hi Dee supporters.

Wanted to ask your opinion on how you guys perceived Garletts season ending up?

Also, would anyone be interested in Yarran and/or Henderson joining your club and would they slot into your best 22 (getting back to some form of course)?

Cheers

Garlett was good for us... A bit inaccurate but good

Jeffy has been excellent this season, gave us the crumbing presence we've been lacking for a long time but he really needs to work on his set shots.

I do like Yarran's skill set but I'm not sure about the mental side of things for him after watching him pout and sook on the field this season.

I'd be interested in Henderson only if Garland left via FA otherwise not.

Dude they were allowed to take uncontracted players from clubs and Scully took up their offer and was able to go without the need for a trade, it was a unique situation.
Dude!!! It wasnt as unique as u are saying... It never intended staying at Melbourne from the time he signed... He was never going to re sign with us no matter what GWS offered him

He would have stayed with us had GWS not been introduced into the competition, he got an out of this world offer from an expansion club and took it.

It was a unique situation.

How as JKH tracked this season? Haven't seen much of him but seems a bit of a livewire when up and going.
Bit of second year blues for him, worked on things at Casey but does have a good future IMO.

More suited to the midfield than the crumbing forward we tried him as at times this year, just needs to build up the tank and keep working defensively so he can spend the majority of his time in the midfield.

He should never have been in that situation to be able to be offered that money... Hence my idea of 5yrs... Even three with an option of 2 if club wants it...

Hence the unique situation with an expansion club.
Also shows that in that same year trengrove wanted to stay and signed an extension... Hogan, pettracca and brayshaw have all signed extensions because they want to stay
