Jed Anderson from the Hawks could turn out to be a very good midfielder. Was one of Box Hill's best in the VFL GF today, and just has some traits that look like he could be an impact player at AFL level (hard at it, good mover, nice left foot kick, nose for goals).

Still only 21, too. I reckon he'd have a much higher ceiling than blokes like Michie, Newton etc.

Watched him also. Looks like a good prospect but i doubt he will move from Hawthorn. He's part of the next generation

I was thinking the same thing, some players have a lot of patience and would rather play 2s in a successful team determined to make it in the team in the team in the future, rather than get the opportunity to play AFL at a lesser team. Look at Tom Mitchell 're-signed with Sydney but only plays neafl.

Agree re: Anderson being someone worth pursuing.

Considering the last 2/3 pages have been hijacked about that skinny bloke that now plays for GWS, what do others think about Schoenmakers (especially if he's dropped this wk)?

If schoenmakers gets dropped for the GF (to make room for Gunston) I'd be expecting Melb to be straight in his ear.

He would offer flexibility being able to play back & fwd, but I think he could play a 2nd kpf with Hogan.

Would be 25 next year & wouldn't cost a huge amount in $$$ or trade. Thoughts?

He's not good enough, he contests 8/10 balls with one arm.

As a defender, Schoenmakers is a spud. He played his junior football as a forward, and looks like a 3rd forward type that we need.

He's shit, not AFL quality at all.

So was Hallahan.
Realistically he is going to have to wait 12 months minimum for a crack behind Mitchell/Hodge/Burgoyne/Lewis. Means he is 22.

Problem is we need a consistent 2nd forward before we need a 3rd forward.

I see where you and Punchy are coming from and we need support for Hogan, but I'm not a fan. Lynch would have been a better option but as we know that option is off the table.

Hawthorn make Clangers look okay as a forward. I suspect we would make him look deplorable.

I think Pedo was building towards that this year before injury. He probably isn't the long term option but might play the role until the right person comes along?

When is he 23?

Max King is being groomed as the ruck/2nd forward.

With the sub rule being scrapped next year, I wonder if we'll go back to the days of two full time ruck man??

True. He was having a good year before being injured (certainly way better than Dawes). However given he's 29 going into next season he's not a long term answer - he's a stop-gap until we find the right fit.

Do people really care if a player wants to leave? seriously of a player wants to go .. who the hell cares .. I just want a team of players that want to play for the Melbourne FC .. if they don't let them go and bring in players that want to play ...

Even if Hogan wanted to go, yes it would piss me off but hey I wouldn't lose a nights sleep .. that's a list managers problem ..
See where you are coming from but if this happened I'd lose it at the club. We finally get our hands on a star and (if he was to leave after only actually providing 2 years of service) we can't provide him with what he needs to want to stay, then that is an enormous fail on the club's part. Most important young player we have had since before I can remember. They simply don't come along very often. If we can't retain him, I just about with have lost what little faith I have left in the club
