So we're saying we'll get Kelly for our first, Benell for our second, Rice with our third, and Carlisle in the PSD.

Do any other teams have turn around stories as compelling for the GC boys as Mavs?

Bennell would be an amazing get, and honestly it would most likely cost or first round pick in some form.

I'd imagine Mav would be the perfect role model for Bennell in coming across.

Like many people have already said, I agree that Bennell is almost exactly the type of player that we need, and would instantly make us a better team. Despite this, however, I am still leaning more towards giving him a miss, as it's not just the drugs issue that is of concern with Harley. As the attached article outlines, he has a long history of indiscretions, many of which aren't trivial matters. At the very least, he has displayed questionable character and a serious lack of discipline thus far in his career.

That's not to say that Bennell can't change- Steve Johnson and Heath Shaw are prime examples of guys who have turned their off-field behaviour around. But the unfortunate reality is that a club like ours can ill-afford any more off-field incidents. Unlike a team like Hawthorn, who are able to take a punt on a guy like Dayle Garlett and then be given the 'Oh well, it was worth a try' reaction when he doesn't make it, we would cop the inevitable 'Saints have a poor culture' line as soon as we have another slip up. I'm certainly not sure I agree with those who now claim we have a strong culture. Let's not forget, less than 2 years ago our players were setting fire to dwarves. Since then, has there been a noticeable improvement? Almost certainly. But is it a 'strong' culture? Probably a bit premature to go that far.

Either way, it would represent a MASSIVE risk/reward call to trade for him.
That article just makes me want Bennell even more for having a crack at that prick Mark Robinson.

Yeah one was for disobeying a police officer in Mandurah. No offence to anyone from WA police but if you are aboriginal there they will arrest you for looking at them funny. If he'd been doing the same as that Marley Williams he would have been in gaol for 10 years. He needs to have someone take him under their wing and guide him. We have a very sensible group these days.

The potential for the team if he came and played according to his talent level is really tempting.

Unfortunately it's still just under six years since we last took that sort of risk...

It's hugely tempting but surely the risk/reward is tipped too far one way. As good as the knock on effect for our midfield would be, what about the knock on effect the other way. Don't want to turn this promising young list into the partyboys

I think the best value is still at the Greater Waste of Space, they have good players that can't get games or are injured. The way they are talking up this year's draft the Saints will likely use the first 2 picks and then fish around for players who have been on a list. I can't see too many changes this year.

Private schools Pfffft.
You private school boys would be lucky to last two days at one of the secondary Slaughter House Schools out in the West Burbs.
Out my way if you wore shoes to school and your dad wasnt in jail youd get bashed for being a pretty boy snob.
:D

Word brother!

Of the four big names we are supposed to be after, what order of preference do you have?

Mine is, Bennell, Treloar, Kelly, Carlisle.

Kelly, Bennell, treloar, Carlisle
