Well it gives the giants 13+15.

So 8 + 32 for 13+15.

Gives us 7+13+15

Gives the giants 8+29+32+37

Would mean for us:

7: slider or Allan/Tauru
13: Lindsay
15: Shanahan/Trainor
If we got Allan and Lindsay, would be a very underwhelming. Neither genuine ball winning mids, both flankers wanna be mids.

How do people rate reid compared to hunter clark at the same point i.e. their draft year?

my ranking using the top 15 prospects from the various mocks (removing father son and acadamies):

Normal elite cream of the crop
.......
GAP
.......
1. Smillie
2. FOS
.......
GAP
.......
3. Draper
4. Lalor
5. Langford
6. Tarau
......
GAP
......
7. Trainor
8. Hotton
9. Smith
10. Allen
11. Murphy Reid
.....
GAP
.....
12. Armstrong
13. Lindsay
14. Travaglia
15. Berry

its a seriously disappointing crop if i had a top 5 pick. i'm not sold on it. think its a bit meh.
Interesting. Why Smillie 1?

Is it because of his size and the potential of that?

He has upside and the attributes to make it in multiple positions. I think he's far from the polished product.

You can play him almost immediately off the fwd flank and develop his game.

His size and movement for his size is impressive. Especially in close. Around the contest and the stoppage. I can see us helping him with his application and therefore his running ability. I think his midfield craft can be developed.

Compare him to say Smith. Smith it a bit like collard it'll take years before his body is right and tbh I don't see how it translate to state league level let alone AFL where the bodies are bigger.

The disappointing thing about this draft is there is no Harley Reid, Walsh, petracca type here. No once in a generation midfield talent. It's like the top end is missing but the picks between 5-10 last longer then I feel it drops off again.

Someone like SPP would go top 5 and push for pick 1 in this draft which shows how stunted it really is.

I suspect it's been hyped up because a number of clubs are using it to rebuild and need optimism that it can deliver. I don't see it.

When Tauru gets picked ahead of us, and we all scream with joy knowing a top mid will fall to us. just remember the screams of joy we all let out when Ess picked Laverde, leaving us free to pick... Hugh Goddard
And the abject disappointment we all felt when they selected NWM over Hobbs
Or the happiness when Essendon selected Tatsas over Phillipou.

I don't understand your point. Laverde is almost as big a disappointment as Hugh Goddard anyway.
Since 2018 who have we f***ed up in frdp's except Allison and he was something like pick 26 anyway.

Tend to agree. The comment is very strange. Of all the players to mention too. Bizarre cherry pick.

Worth factoring in that we went through a period of trading rather than drafting when libba was head recruiter.

Totally different players. Clark is a dual sided inside ball winner, Reid is more outside and like a right footed Dal Santo. They can't be compared.

SPP? What on earth

I don’t see Reid as outside at all. Maybe your 1m perimeter type guy, which is probably where Pendles works.

It’s probably my concern with him in terms of getting bodied.

I was referring to the positions they would play. Reid would never be an inside mid and would play the mid role like a Dal Santo, or a Jones type midfielder.

Did anyone scream "Why tf didnt we pick Naughton" when we picked Clark and Coffield?

Im agreeing with you actually. I just think throwing your collective toys out of the cot, or popping the champagne corks, when the kid/s we pick hasnt even shaken RTB's hand yet is a folly. Ive been lured by the "Big 6 mids" thing too I admit, but greater judges than any mugs on here reckon this draft bats deep, so Im now good with that.

TheJackal did.

Clark was a HBF, Reid is a ball magnet, he's growing on me, rapidly.

Simply put, Smilie gets you first touch on the ball then he gets it out of congestion to Reid who nails a forward.
Imo, its gonna take a few years before we see smillie doing all that. Hes only 'dominant' now because of how much bigger he is than the rest of his competition. If we pick him I really do hope he grows into his size and plays to his size cause as things stand I just think he's too weak and easy to tackle for his size, even against his current competiton.

Murphy Reid, if you are reading this.

You are my idol. My brother from another mother. My day 1 OG. Top of my draft board since I saw you walk on water against Country. I hope you are wearing the Red White and Black in 2025.
Murphy reminds me of Nick Dal Santo. It's the way he glides through the traffic and has neat skills. Like NDS, Murphy suffers from 'Mark Waugh Syndrome', in that he looks too casual and makes the difficult look easy.

I remember Nick sliding to pick 13 (IIRC) in the 2001 "Superdraft" because it was felt he was touch too slow. JB pounced on him and the rest is history, except when the pelican flew in and shat all over the list.

Maybe they won't pick him at 7 or 8, but if we do split pick 8 for 15 and 16 as has been suggested, then I'd grab him there, where he would be a bargain.

Must admit that draft was one I was pretty emotionally involved in. Obviously I desperately wanted Aaron due to the connections, but even I had a few question marks over his kicking. I'm clearly no expert because I was the exact same about Berry from Lions and he's had a fine career.

I thought

Much like this draft, I was originally keen on trading up to grab Brayshaw. Then he rose up to pick 2 and that became unrealistic. I actually really liked Dow that year as well. Then Stephenson had that heart issue and we thought we may get a star slider in him.

On draft night, despite our need for mids at our picks, I was still keen on Darcy Fogerty and Azza.

I always find it fascinating the 2 common arguments.

1. He’s too small and his game won’t translate playing midfield against men in the AFL.

2. He only dominates at school boy level given he’s bigger than everyone else and that won’t translate against bigger bodies in the afl.

Both are regularly proven incorrect. Size doesn’t always matter :)

Also if you think Reid will never be an inside mid is he worth the cost at that pick?

Outside mids tend to be easier to pick up at the trade table and cost less draft wise.

I'm wary of outside mids. The bust factor is high. Tend to need some elite weapon we it endurance, speed, disposal and overhead game.
