We're casting a huge net once again this year!! You can now add Sam Wright to the mix of player's were interested in.

North Melbourne defender Sam Wright pushes for long-term deal as manager refutes re-signing despite trigger clause

Wright's South Australian manager, Greg Size of Deliver Sports Management refuted a club tweet suggesting that Wright had re-signed already, saying that further contract talks had been put off until the season is completed. "A bit cheeky guys, he hasn't signed anything yet," Size tweeted

"Sam is keen to finish the season off strongly, with North hopefully going deep into the finals, and then we'll sit down with the Kangas and work everything out," Size added to Fairfax Media. "There is not much more really to say at this stage."

It's believed that multiple clubs had shown preliminary interest in Wright, including Sydney, St Kilda, and Geelong.

We are showing a lot of prelim interest in anyone and everyone.

Is it just because Wayne Hughes is having a chat? Or the trade chat is real?

Ahh! The old cat amongst the pigeons, Quinton Narkle to the Saints coz his "cuz" from GCS Jack Martin wants to be team mates with him again. Now I'm off for the weekend, so all you researchers out there, find out....A. Are they cousins? B. Have they played footy together? C. Are they coming to St.Kilda? D. Am I a big fat liar? :p Have a great weekend all. :)

Wow, Grav, that is absolutely dirty. Filthy thing to do :D:eek:

I'll go with A, B and D.

Have never been a fan.

Of course Wright would be our highest priority.

He's a HBF'er and we're clearly short on them.
:drunk::thumbsdown:

If Aish doesn't want to come to the saints that's one thing...But I think we forget the impact he had in just his first year. I'd be wrapped if he was keen on the saints.

5th in the rising star. See below, pretty sure we need elite kicking skills..

STRENGTHS
Aish is composed beyond his experience, and has the footy smarts of all the best players. Beyond those immeasurable qualities are more obvious ones: he can find the ball, take the game on with it, and can use it. At the mid-year under-18 championships Aish had the best kicking efficiency of any player, a strong indicator of his ability to get the ball and make every possession count. Has experience against senior opponents and has worked past getting heavily tagged this year, a tick for his temperament.

Wide net... purely because it's a numbers game. Getting them to come over is difficult. So if you put all eggs into 1 basket / player and it fails, you have nothing.

If you land one, then you can adjust your draft selections accordingly. I dare say that the club isn't just looking at this year. If they believe they will need player type X in the future and they can get him now, they will.

Sam Wright.... The failed tagger who's been superceded in that role by Ben Jacobs & is now a mediocre half back flanker?

Seriously, if we pick him up, I'll be pissed off... He's inferior to all of Webster, Savage, Roberton, Newnes & even Geary.

Do not need or want this bloke at all! Plus he's 26 next year.... Definitely do not want!

I'd love love love for a big name, talented player - young of course- to come play for us over other teams.

If not, not really interested in low-range players that we are recruiting just because. Would much rather go to the draft and focus on doing that well, we've made that mistake too much before.

Unless the recruiters are sure that they have something - had my doubts when Roberton for instance was brought in, but he's virtually my favourite player now.

I believe we are six quality players of contending for a flag. 4 midfielders 1 key back and a third tall in defence. I don't think we need to add with our forward line or rucks. We need 1 full back to help out Goddard and another to replace fisher/dempster when they retire. We need a few more quality midfielders to help out Armitage and Steven. We do have a few young mids but they aren't the high end quality that most premierships have had.

Hmmm, he's not too bad. Somewhere in between Seb Ross and Clint Jones :p

Jones was a better kick than most give him credit for.

Too often he just tried to get distance rather than take a shorter option and this meant that he sprayed a few. That and people always think back to that ****ing checkside in the last minutes of the 2009 GF...

Not really relevant to this year, but flicking through Emma Quayle's new book in a bookshop. Gives our recruiters' top 20 (F/S and academy picks accounted for) from last year as:
McCartin
Petracca
Brayshaw
Wright
Laverde
De Goey
Weller
Langford
Moore
Duggan
Cockatoo
Garlett
Goddard
Lever
McKenzie
Miller
Ellis
Heeney
Marchbank
Lonie

Interesting given both were available at 19.

If we really rated Laverde as the 5th best player in the draft why did we take McKenzie?

Not that I am complaining, very happy with D-Mac. Just wondering if there was something that turned us off him on draft night?

Laverde was taken before our Goddard/Mckenzie picks

Because he wasnt available?

Well... yeah.... but I mean..... ya know, besides that?

EDIT - I had a complete brain fade and thought the Essendon pick was after our double up.

I still remember it as -

Carlton - Blaine Boekhorst
"OMG WE ARE GETTING GODDARD!!!"
*Insert scene here*
St Kilda - Hugh Goddard

QUOTE="StKing11, post: 40515166, member: 163749"]If we went for Jaeger it would obviously be next year, no way would we be giving up pick 6 for him now.

OOC end of next year and his Mrs lives in Melbourne, if he can come back well from his injury next year and we like the look of his knee in a lengthy medical, then I'd be super keen. Has all the tools to be the best player in the comp.[/QUOTE]
If his knee holds up and he has a big next year hewill cost the earth. would have thought the only chance of a good deal would be to take a gamble. bit like the stock market buy low strategy. wouldn't like to gamble pick 6 but second rounder hell yeah. dreaming anyway they won't consider that

The Suns are expected to rise next year yeah? I wonder if they would look at something like Pick 6 + our 2016 2nd for Jaeger + GC 2016 1st.

If the Suns bomb again we could be looking at another top 10 pick in 2016 to go with our own first rounder. How much do we want to gamble on the best young mid in the comp? Is his knee really that bad or a teams talking up the severity to try and drive the price down?

I agree. Take the risk now for a fraction of the price he'd cost next year if he does come good.

I'm not sure that trade is worth it. All you are doing is increasing risk in what is potentially already a risky situation.

As for teams talking him down to lower his price:
JAEGER O'Meara will be right to play round one next season, but Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade admits he has concerns whether the star midfielder will return to his best.

Other teams don't really need to do that when the GC are doing it for them.
